After achieving lukewarm success with the earlier versions of the Windows Phone, Microsoft believes that its new baby will be successful in changing their fortunes in the smartphone market. Code named Apollo; Windows Phone 8 is the next generation of Windows Phone. Some of the features of the Windows Phone 8 OS were unveiled earlier this year and have been gradually clarified via a number of leaks and through demos of devices featuring the OS. The changes include much improved app support, background multitasking, native code support for C/C++ along with SQLite and DirectX, transition from core components of Windows CE to the core components of Windows NT architecture and Nokia’s famed mapping technology. While the full list is too long to present here, one certainly gets the idea that Microsoft went all out on this one. This is precisely why the world has been waiting with bated breath.
Microsoft finally seems to be bringing out a game changer with Windows Phone 8 after a number of misses to give Android a serious run for its money. The actual result of this game will only be revealed once the customers are able to lay their hands on Windows Phone 8 devices. Will the new devices be as good as they have been advertised to be? Only time will tell.
