These past couple of days, we’ve seen new smartphones drop like manna from the heavens as manufacturer after manufacturer has taken centerstage to make their respective announcements about the new and exciting devices they will flood the market with. It started out with Samsung unveiling the Samsung Galaxy Note II a couple of weeks back then followed by Motorola which unveiled a triumvirate of hard-punching smartphones a couple of days later. Nokia not to be left behind also took the chance to make official its current flagship device for the Windows Phone platform, the Nokia Lumia 920.

Sad to say, there was no mention of a specific date of release for the Nokia Lumia 920 during its unveiling but we came across certain information which were handed over by our sources that indicate that Nokia’s top dog handset for the Windows Phone ecosystem will hit the shelves of AT&T on October 21.

Actually, the rumored October 21 launch date for the Nokia Lumia 920 via AT&T has been around for a couple of days now but it is only today that we were given information that intimates that the Nokia handset could very well launch on the said date. Sad to say, we are unable to give out details about the contents of the message or documentation or who it was from specifically but be assured that the information is highly-accurate. In fact, the information came from the very same source that gave us details about the release dates of the WP Mango update a couple of month back so we are confident with the reliability of our source.

Despite this, we still have certain reservations about the said date – after all, you can’t expect us to bite everything, hook, line and sinker and everything in between, can you? These reservations only exist because of the fact that reports are coming in that Microsoft is allegedly not set to unveil everything about Windows Phone 8 until October is out. In addition to that, OEMs still stick to the “early November” timeframe when they will release new hardware to the market.

However, we all know that the Windows Phone 8 OS has been RTM’s (release to manufacturer) so this at least gives Nokia and AT&T ample time to put the Nokia Lumia 920 through rigorous testing before it finally gets released. Not only that, there is a certain pressure for Nokia and Microsoft to release the Nokia Lumia 920 as soon as they can.
