Jelly Bean soak test now underway for the Verizon Motorola Droid Razr M

As of the moment, the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which was unleashed a couple of weeks ago. As of the moment, there are only a handful devices running this particular version of Android and these are the LG Nexus 4 and Google Nexus 10. Preceding Android 4.2 was Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and this version was unveiled a couple of months back in July at Google I/O. Of course, it is only expected that Google developer devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi have already gotten the Android 4.1 refresh. There are also a handful of non-Google handsets who already gotten the upgrade and these are the Samsung Galaxy S III and the HTC One X.

For the time being, with the relative “newness” of Android 4.2, most of the highly-capable devices currently available in the market are waiting instead to get their just dessert of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Among those eagerly awaiting their turn to get cranked up to Android 4.1 is the Motorola Droid Razr M which was released in US shores by Verizon.

We all know how “un-timely” the update process is for carrier-branded smartphones released in US shores is and more often than not, an Android version could already be around for more than half a year before it even makes its rounds on the carrier-released handsets in our side of the world. However, Motorola is looking to change all that.

In fact, as early as a month ago, a leaked Jelly Bean build for the Motorola Droid Razr M already surfaced and to top it all off, Verizon has announced that is will start rolling out the update in stages beginning today. The update will initially be sent out to participants of the Jelly Bean soak test and if all turns out well, a rollout on a more massive scale can be expected to happen in the next couple of days.

The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is expected to bring to the Motorola Droid Razr M the bevy of Jelly Bean-associated goodies and treats such as Google Now and smart keyboard predictions. However, since the handset is not a Google developer device, the version of Jelly Bean landing on the Motorola Droid Razr M will also come with the usual bloatware and the best example of this is the ISIS mobile payment application.

As for the Motorola Droid Razr M, the handset’s circuitry is built around its QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset and this SOC gives the handset a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and a full gigabyte of RAM to ensure that its performance romance snappy and buttery-smooth. The Motorola Droid Razr M packs 8GB of internal storage but a microSD card slot in its chassis enables memory expansion on the handset so its meager internal memory shouldn’t be much of an issue. In terms of its display, the Motorola Droid Razr M sports a 4.3-inch SuperAMOLED panel with a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels while its camera department features a rear 8MP shooter and a front VGA snapper.
