If you happen to be a fanboy of the Android ecosystem, then you know that rocking a Google developer device such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus entitles you to get updates and platform version crank ups ahead of everybody else. This is because of the nature of the fully stock Android operating system running in the internals of these Google developer handsets. With handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, there is no overlaid custom user interface atop its operating system to complicate things thereby making it easier to upgrade to the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system.

Sad to say, this is not the case though if you happen to have a carrier-branded version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus such as the version released by Sprint a couple of months back. Though the Sprint version of the handset is also considered as a Google developer device, the smartphone gets to wait some more before a platform version upgrade becomes available to the device because the wireless provider still has to give the green light for the update to be rolled out. Take the case of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for example. The international GSM version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus  has already gotten its taste of Jelly Bean while Sprint users are still waiting for the update to make its way to their respective handsets. Thus, not all Google developer devices are created equal for that matter.

However, word on the street is that users of the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus don’t have that much waiting to endure. There are rumors that the handset was slated to get upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in early September and the information comes from a letter that is supposedly being sent out to the Business Salesforce of the wireless provider.

The letter is dated September 5, 2012 and says that on Thursday, September 6, 2012, a software update that will crank up the software version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus to FH05 will be rolled out. Further down under Fixes / Enhancements, the letter confirms that the update will upgrade the device Operating System of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. In addition to that, the update is expected to bring better search experience, actionable notifications, and a smarter keyboard among others to the handset, according to the letter.

If this pans out, users of the Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will definitely be delighted to get their devices upgraded to Jelly Bean. However, until you see the notification that lets you know about the availability of the Jelly Bean update on your device, we advise everybody to stay calm and take this information with a grain of salt. We are still awaiting some sort of confirmation from Sprint regarding this but we will surely give you an update when more details are already available. If anyone has successfully received the update or even just the notification that its coming – we’d love for you to post your experience with it!
