In the Android ecosystem, Google developer devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus have always been popular among fanboys of the platform. Take the case of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for example – the handset packs a fully stock, vanilla version of the Android operating system with no custom user interfaces overlaid atop the OS complicating things later on. This is also the reason why the handset is always first in line whenever Google releases an update or a platform upgrade. However, this only holds true in the case of the GSM version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Sprint is on sale now starting at 49.99.

Carrier-branded versions of the handset such as the one released by Sprint on the other hand, although a developer device as well, doesn’t have the “first-in-line” attribute of the GSM version of the handset. After all, the carrier still has to put though whatever updates will be released by Google through its own internal testing process which inevitably delays the process making users of the handset wait longer than they have to. This is very true in the case of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Sprint.

However, the wait that users of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus had to endure now comes to an end. After rumors of a letter being sent to Sprint’s Business Salesforce intimated that Jelly Bean will land on the device on September 6 surfaced and followed rather quickly by a leaked screenshot of an internal Sprint system containing basically the same information, we finally have the confirmation that the carrier is already rolling out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to its version of the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

The confirmation came first from a Sprint employee in the community forums of the carrier who confirmed that the rollout of Jelly Bean to the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus has already started. And to make it even more official, the carrier has already updated its software update website to show that indeed, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is already rolling out to the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus as of September 6, 2012. This update is expected to bring performance improvements, Google Now and all those features associated with Jelly Bean to the handset. However, it will also discontinue its support for Adobe Flash but that is just a minor inconvenience compared to not getting the Android 4.1 refresh, yes?

As for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Sprint announced the addition of the handset to its stable back in January but it was only in April that the handset finally made its debut in the shelves of the carrier. The handset packs a Texas Instruments OMAP4460 chipset under the hood and this gives the device a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and 1GB of RAM. The storage space onboard the device comes up to 32GB while its display is a 4.65-inch SuperAMOLED panel with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The only point of criticism for the handset is its mediocre camera department with only a 5MP shooter at its back panel and a 1.3MP snapper out front.
