In the Android ecosystem, we have what we call the Google developer devices which run on a fully stock version of the Android operating system with no overlaid custom user interface on top of the device’s OS. Because of this, these devices are always first in line whenever Google releases a new Android version – the very same reason as to why the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (which happens to be one of these Google developer devices) is still very popular and at one time considered the best Android-powered smartphone despite the fact that some of its components are not fit to a flagship handset for that matter.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Sprint is on sale now starting at 49.99.

With the release of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as the latest version of the Google mobile operating system, it was a given fact that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus with its pure Google experience with no custom UI to mess things up will get a taste of Jelly Bean way ahead of even the superphones in the market today. Well, the GSM version of the handset already did to the delight of its users but those rocking a carrier-branded version of the device still have to jump through some hoops before the update reaches their respective devices. After all, these carriers are very much part of the update process and still have to give the green light before the rollout can commence.

It is a good thing then that Sprint already managed to get its variant of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus upgraded to Jelly Bean. The official rollout commenced a couple of days ago but as is always the case with these OTA updates, they are often done in a staggered manner so the update will hit all devices at the same time.

If you happen to have a Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus and for some reason still hasn’t gotten that notification that your device is now about to get Jelly Bean, you have the option of getting the Jelly Bean update and installing it manually onto your device. That being said, you can now download the update file from the servers of Google but before you tinker with your device, you need to be running the latest stock Sprint FG01 OTA. Also, either your device is running a custom recovery, or it has an unlocked bootloader with the stock recovery or are currently rooted, then you have all the means at your disposal to give you handset a taste of the official Jelly Bean update via manual install.

The full set of instructions can be found over at XDA Developers and should you be brave enough to do this, just remember that tinkering with your device automatically voids you warranty. If you don’t care much for that, gather your guts and start flashing away. Oh, and good luck and enjoy Jelly Bean on your Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
