As of the moment, the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system to get released is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which was released a couple of months ago. However, due to the way things work in the Android ecosystem, only Google developer devices running a pure, unadulterated version of the Android operating system with no custom user interface overlaid atop the OS itself have had access to this latest version of Android. All other devices, high-end devices at that, on the other hand are still waiting for their turn to get their taste of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which is currently the most sought-after version of the operating system.

The Droid Razr is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $0.01.

Several flagship devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S III and the HTC One X have already gotten cranked up to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but there are also come other highly capable handsets from the past who have been confirmed to get the Android 4.1 refresh but so far hasn’t had the luck to get a taste of this version of the operating system. One such device is the uber-sexy Motorola Droid Razr released by Verizon in US shores a couple of years back.

With Google’s acquisition of Motorola, a lot of people expected that the high-end devices in the stable of the manufacturer will get fast-tracked on their way to getting the latest Android version but it looks like users of these handsets will have to wait for their turn just like everybody else. Owners of the Motorola Droid Razr however got an early Christmas gift when the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update was rolled out to the device last month. There was no announcement of the said rollout and later on, it came out that the rollout was just an accidental leak and Verizon pulled the update after a couple of days.

If you happen to have a Motorola Droid Razr for your mobile weapon of choice and somewhat missed the “accidental rollout”, you still have a chance to give your handset a taste of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, albeit unofficially. Spc_hicks09 of XDA Developers has already posted the necessary files and pertinent instructions in the forums for those wanting to get their Motorola Droid Razr handsets upgraded to Jelly Bean. However, be reminded that tinkering with your device will void your warranty or worse, brick your handset. In addition to that, Spc_hicks09 warned that once you update your Motorola Droid Razr to Jelly Bean, there is now way that you can go back to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich if in case Jelly Bean doesn’t work out for you.

As for the Motorola Droid Razr, the handset is already aging but still has impressive components under its hood. It relies on its Texas Instruments OMAP4430 chipset to power its operations and this SoC gives the handset a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and a full gigabyte of RAM. Storage space on the handset comes up to only 16GB but the Motorola Droid Razr has a microSD card slot for memory expansion purposes. Display-wise, the handset sports a 4.3-inch SuperAMOLED panel with a 540 x 960 resolution while its camera department boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and a front 2MP snapper.

You can purchase the Droid Razr for a discounted price tag now starting at $0.01.
