galaxysiiisprintThe Samsung Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone has sold more than 50 million units worldwide. The award-winning handset was voted the best smartphone of 2012 at the recent Global Mobile Awards, and has received that designation from several other websites and industry conferences as well. The Galaxy S III has also helped Samsung to record profits, moved them ahead of Apple as the number one seller of smartphones in global units, and was the first mobile handset to ever outsell an iPhone while both devices were available from the same carriers.

In spite of all those achievements, and the fact that it is still selling very well and is popular with smartphone shoppers, the 16 GB Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III recently received a retail price reduction to $0.01 on contract from Amazon. Smartphone bargain hunters looking for an Apple alternative have to be ecstatic if they have not purchased a phone to this point, as that very same Galaxy S III recently retailed with a three digit price tag from most wireless carriers. The slim and light smartphone delivers a large high-resolution display, offers simultaneous high resolution image and video capture, and is powered by the Jelly Bean operating system out-of-the-box.

Measuring just 0.34 inches (8.6 mm), the handset also weighs just 4.70 ounces (133 g). This makes it lighter and slimmer than other smartphones with such a large display, and the resolution on that large 4.80 inch Super AMOLED screen runs 720 x 1,280 pixels. Pixel density is also high comparatively, at 306 pixels per inch. That display is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2 against scratching and chipping, and more than 16 million independent colors are used to render visuals.

Sprint rolled out their first ever 4G LTE system in the United States last year, and that speedy network is the home to the Samsung Galaxy S III. Up to 9.2 hours of talking time is provided from a full battery charge, and the handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 microchip package. The central processor is a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait chip, and graphics are handled by an Adreno 225 GPU. Also available at 32 GB model, the Samsung Galaxy S III provides 2.0 GB of RAM memory and offers a microSD slot for storage expansion and offboard data access.

The handset contains a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder with built-in LED flash, and video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution. A front facing chat cam is also on board, with a 1.9 megapixel sensor, and is capable of video calls. The built-in music player on board the Galaxy S III comes with preset and customizable equalizers, and the handset offers NFC wireless support out-of-the-box, with popular applications Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter pre-installed.
