Verizon Motorola Droid 4: Software update to bring global roaming capabilities

If you happen have Verizon for your wireless provider of choice and are always overseas either for business or pleasure, then chances are you already heard about the plans of the carrier to enable global roaming in several of its handsets. In fact, as early as the start of the current year, Verizon has already announced at CES 2012 that the Motorola Droid 4 and the LG Spectrum will get global roaming. So if you happen to have the Motorola Droid 4 for your mobile weapon of choice and have plans of travelling overseas in the near future, there could be a chance that you will no longer have the need to purchase a cheap entry level device along with a prepaid SIM card in the country of your destination.

This as much was confirmed with Verizon when the wireless provider announced that a software update is already in the works and is expected to bring global roaming capabilities to the Motorola Droid 4. The said software update is expected to get rolled out in the sometime in the summer and while it may not arrive as soon as we hoped, it is still good to see the wireless provider following through on the promises it made over at CES 2012.

In addition to the Motorola Droid 4, Verizon also confirmed that the said software update will also hit the HTC Rezound 4G, Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G and the Motorola Droid Razr as well. This after there were rumors that started circulating last week concerning the HTC Rezound 4G and the fact that a display advertisement in brick and mortar stores of the wireless provider showed that a pending update will bring the said global roaming capability to the handset. And with the announcement, Verizon has already put to rest the rumors which will at least assure users of the handsets mentioned above especially those fond of being overseas.

And if you still haven’t had the chance to play with the Motorola Droid 4, the price point of the handset has already dropped down to just a penny at an online retailer making it more affordable for you to get your hands on the handset. Of course, you will be required to sign a new two-year agreement with Verizon in the process but that should be the least of your concerns given the components and capabilities of the device, not to mention the fact that it packs a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that should make your messaging chores a whole lot easier.

As for the Motorola Droid 4, the handset packs a Texas Instruments OMAP4430 chipset under the hood where a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and a full gigabyte of RAM work together to deliver the computing power that the handset needs. The internal storage of the handset comes up to 16GB but this is expandable to as much as 32GB while its 4.0-inch display is of the TFT variety and has a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels.
