So successful that the Galaxy S III helped Samsung past Apple in 2012 as the worldwide leader in global smartphone shipments. Samsung just announced record fourth-quarter profit for 2012, numbers that were an incredible 76% up from the same quarter in 2011. The company posted profits of 7.04 trillion won ($6.6 billion) in the last quarter last year, but obtaining one of the hottest smartphones on the planet will not require much of an investment with Sprint.

The Samsung Galaxy S III for Sprint is available for a reduced sale price saving you nearly $200 now starting at $0.01.

Sprint is currently offering their 16 GB Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone for $0.01 on contract in the Amazon Wireless store. Samsung electronics does make more than just smartphones, but that is where the majority of their operating profit arose from in the 4th quarter last year. Samsung also finished 2012 with a full 30.4% of the worldwide smartphone marketplace, well ahead of 2nd place Apple, who currently controls 19.4% of the market. And the global popularity of the Galaxy S III smartphone is no doubt a substantial reason for Samsung’s success.

The handset is slim as smartphones go, measuring only 0.34 inches (8.6 mm) in thickness. Samsung has included their TouchWiz UX UI which meshes with the Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system, and the GS III is light for a phone with such a large display and hardware package, weighing just 4.70 ounces (133 g). The display measures a full 4.80 inches, and is protected by a scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2. Pixel density runs high at 306 pixels per inch, as does resolution at 720 x 1,280 pixels.

That display effectively reproduces more than 16 million separate colors when rendering visuals, and standard capacitive, multitouch gestures are supported on the Super AMOLED screen. Talk time runs above average at 9.20 hours from a single battery charge, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 microchip package powers the device. That includes a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU and 2.0 GB of RAM memory. The Sprint Galaxy S III also includes a microSD slot for storage expansion.

The camera combo on board the GS III records 1,080P HD resolution with its rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, and the front facing chat cam offers video call support. The on board music player allows you to customize your favorite audio files, with both preset and custom equalizers. A YouTube video player is also on board, and popular applications Facebook, Twitter and Picasa have been pre-installed.

You can purchase the Galaxy S III for Sprint at a discounted price tag and save nearly $200 now starting at $0.01.
