The HTC EVO 4G may very well be one of the best handsets to get added to the Android lineup of Sprint but it is definitely on its way out given the fact that the HTC EVO 4G LTE is about to hit the shelves of the wireless provider. The HTC EVO 4G LTE, the successor to the EVO 4G, reached official status when Sprint announced the existence of the handset earlier this month but no exact date of launch was mentioned by the wireless provider during the announcement. It was made known however that preorders for the handset will begin on May 7 for those interested in getting their hands on the HTC EVO 4G LTE ahead of everybody else.

As for its launch date, the rumored May 18 release date for the HTC EVO 4G LTE has been circulating for quite some time now although no confirmation from Sprint has been gotten. In fact, just a couple of days back, a reliable source confirmed that the HTC EVO 4G LTE will indeed hit the shelves of the wireless provider come May 18 and this is not just shelves of the brick and mortar stores of the carrier but its online store as well. We rather tend to give credence to the whispered information from the source since he is the same source that gave us the lowdown on the April 22 release date of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Sprint.

And now we go more information that could all but confirm the supposed May 18 release date of the HTC EVO 4G LTE. This information came in the form of marketing materials for the handset, images actually, which recently surfaced. Furthermore, it was also indicated that the said marketing materials for the HTC EVO 4G LTE will be delivered to the brick and mortar stores of Sprint starting May 14. This alone is already a strong indication that the handset could very well make its debut in the shelves of the wireless provider come May 18 because the May 14 delivery date of the marketing materials gives the carrier a couple of days to promote the handset before launch day. Not that the HTC EVO 4G LTE needs a lot of promoting given the capabilities that it brings to the table which are actually listed below for your reading pleasure.

Under the hood, the HTC EVO 4G LTE will ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its operating system and this will draw power from the handset’s SnapDragon S4 chipset. This chipset gives the HTC EVO 4G LTE a dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and a full gigabyte of RAM to handle the computing power needed by the device while its 16GB of internal storage can still be beefed up to as much as 32GB. Its display on the other hand is a humongous 4.7-inch Super IPS LCD2 panel with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels while its dual-shooter configuration outfits the HTC EVO 4G LTE with a rear 8Mp autofocus camera with LED flash capable of 1080p recording and a front-facing 1.3MP snapper with 720p video capture capability.
