If you judged the Sprint Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone by its current price alone, you would expect it to be a low-end feature phone at best. That is because during the Amazon wireless store Cyber Monday Deals Week the best-selling Sprint Galaxy S III is only around $29 on contract. That price tag applies to the 16 GB model, and this is the same Galaxy S III which globally rocketed out to more than 20 million sales its first 100 days of availability.

The handset offers the Jelly Bean 4.1 Android operating system out-of-the-box, meshing with the popular Samsung TouchWiz UX UI. That handset accepts standard capacitive, multitouch gestures for device navigation, is skinny at 0.34 inches (8.6 mm), and is also runway model light at 4.70 ounces (133 g). Thinner and lighter than the typical smartphone, the handset nonetheless delivers a large 4.80 inch Super AMOLED display.

That 4.80 inch screen delivers a high-end resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, and that is protected against scratching and chipping in everyday use by an overlay of Corning Gorilla Glass 2. A light sensor is built in and automatically adjusts for the proper brightness considering the amount of ambient light present, and the proximity sensor dims the display to conserve battery life when you lift the handset to your face to make or receive a voice call.

Those battery conservation features help the 2,100 mA battery on board the Sprint Galaxy S III handset deliver up to 12.0 hours of talk time from a single charge, and the 2.0 GB of RAM system memory is double the smartphone average. The Sprint Galaxy S III runs on the new 4G LTE Sprint system in the United States, and does so with a powerful dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor. An Adreno 225 graphics processor joins it in the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 microchip suite on board the GS III, and the handset accepts external microSD memory cards up to 64 GB in size.

The Sprint Galaxy S III is capable of capturing high resolution snapshots while simultaneously recording 1,080P HD resolution video, and an extensive list of camera features will be attractive to the closet shutterbug. The rear mounted 8.0 megapixel camcorder is joined by a front facing 1.9 megapixel chat cam in the camera combo, with that front facing camera providing video call support. A built-in music player joins a YouTube video player in the multimedia package on board the Sprint Galaxy S III, and popular applications Facebook, Twitter and Picasa have been pre-installed.
