The handset debuted with a hefty three digit price tag, but recently the price of the HTC Evo 4G LTE smartphone that runs on their newly established 4G LTE network was lowered to $79 on contract at select retailers. The HTC Evo 4G LTE is one of the first LTE capable handsets to run on the Sprint 4G LTE system that was recently debuted in the US. Near Field Communications (NFC) technology offered out-of-the-box means that applications like the wireless retail payment processor Google Wallet and wireless Android Beam data transfer applications are supported.

The HTC Evo 4G handset also arrived as only the second 4G smartphone to deliver simultaneous high definition image and video capture, while also allowing for stereo sound recording. The rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder on the handset provides video capture in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1080p HD) and 30 frames per second. And thanks to its f/2.0 lens, as opposed to the standard f/2.4 lens found on most high-end smartphones, the camera recognizes 40% more light than the typical smartphone, teaming up with the built-in LED flash to offer excellent low light camera operability. That camcorder also has an instant shot mode which capture snapshots in only 0.7 seconds, and benefits from a back illuminated sensor (BSI), CMOS image sensor, multishot mode and high dynamic range mode (HDR). A front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam is also on board, providing portrait snapshot and video call functionality.

The display on the Evo 4G LTE handset offers one of the highest screen resolutions of any smartphone sold today, at 720 x 1,280 pixels and 312 pixels per inch. A layer of Corning Gorilla Glass offers glare reduction and scratch resistance, and at 4.70 inches the Super LCD2 display is one of the largest in the entire mobile marketplace. The HTC Sense v4.0 UI acts as an Android overlay, meshing with Android’s 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system which is present out-of-the-box. The handset is slim at only 0.35 inches (8.99 mm) in thickness, and also light at 4.73 ounces (134 g).

Powering all those high-end features is a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon microchip package, which has at its core a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor and Adreno 225 graphics processing chip. The HTC Evo 4G LTE smartphone also comes with 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB of user accessible storage built-in, with a microSD slot offering storage expansion. In the multimedia package on board the handset, a Stereo FM radio with RDS joins a built-in music player, a YouTube video player and the full range Beats Audio sound system.  You can buy the HTC Evo 4G LTE starting at $79 at select online retailers.

  1. To date this is by far the best phone I have seen. It kills the iPhone 4S, one ups the Samsung Galaxy S3 with its interface and is unequivocally the king of the block.
