After a short wait thanks to the United States Customs Department, the HTC Evo 4G LTE Android smartphone has finally hit American shores. One of the first LTE capable devices on Sprint’s wireless network, the Evo 4G LTE is also one of the first handsets on that network to offer simultaneous HD video and image capture, and delivers Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) out-of-the-box. Near Field Communications (NFC) support offers wireless data share and wireless payment processing options, and the screen is one of the largest and most resolute will of any smartphone. HTC engineers and technicians did a great job keeping the phone light and thin, at only 4.73 ounces (134 g) and 0.35 inches (8.9 mm) thick.

The HTC Evo 4G LTE handset arrives in typical candy bar form factor for a smartphone, but HTC added a built-in kickstand on the back of the two-tone body, which makes viewing videos and movies on the large 4.7 inch screen a hands-free joy. Pixel density runs 312 pixels per inch for an overall screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, and the Super IPS LCD2 capacitive touchscreen displays visuals in 16 million colors. Standard light and proximity sensors are also on board, and a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass offers scratch resistance. The HTC Sense UI version 4.0 works with ICS 4.0 for navigating and operating the device.

Approximately 7.50 hours of talk time is delivered from a single charge of the 2,000 mA battery, and the hardware package on board the HTC Evo 4G LTE handset includes a graphics dedicated Adreno 225 GPU and dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor. The handset comes with 16 GB of storage already built in, a microSD slot for storage expansion capabilities, and 1.0 GB of RAM memory. A 1.3 megapixel chat cam joins an 8.0 megapixel camcorder in the camera combo.

That rear facing camcorder comes equipped with an LED flash and F2 .0 lens, and records video in stereo sound at 1,080P HD and 30 frames per second. A back illuminated sensor (BSI), CMOS image sensor and high dynamic range mode (HDR) join several other customization features on that camcorder, and the instant shot mode allows you to capture snapshots in only 0.7 seconds. The multimedia package on board includes a built-in music player that supports all major file formats, a proprietary YouTube video player and the full range Beats Audio music software.  You can get your hands on the HTC Evo 4G LTE starting at $129.
