galaxysiiisprintAt the annual Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain this year, the Galaxy S III smartphone from Samsung was declared the Best Smartphone of 2012. The phone was also declared Smartphone of the Year (2012) at the Ghana Telecom Awards held at the Movenpick, Accra, as well as by a host of other notable mobile market watchdogs. But many times analysts fall in love with a device, only to see it fall flat on its face when it hits the picky and fickle smartphone marketplace.

The Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $0.01.

This has certainly not been the case with the best selling and flagship Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone, which recently celebrated its one year anniversary by passing the 50 million global sales mark. The handset is closing in on the 60 million units sold level, and with a one penny price tag on contract for the Sprint 16 GB model, sales will probably not slow down anytime soon. The slim and light smartphone measures just 0.34 inches (8.6 mm) in profile, weighing in at a featherweight 4.70 ounces (133 g).

The Galaxy S III running on the Sprint 4G LTE system in the United States delivers a large 4.80 inch Super AMOLED screen with True HD designation. Resolution runs 720 by 1,280 pixels, delivered at 306 color pixels each inch. More than 16 million individual colors are used to produce visual displays on the touchscreen, which supports multitouch, capacitive gestures. For those of us who are clumsy with our smartphone, a scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protects against everyday dings and drops.

The Galaxy S III phone arrived with the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 Android operating system out-of-the-box, but has since received a bump up to the Jelly Bean OS. Up to 9.20 hours of talk time can be achieved from a full battery charge, and the phone runs on a Snapdragon S4 plus dual core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. A full 2.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, and a 32 GB version is also available, with both of those handsets providing a microSD slot for storage expansion.

The premier camera on the Galaxy S III for Sprint uses an 8.0 megapixel sensor, and can take high definition snapshots while recording HD video. That video is recorded in 1,080P HD resolution and at a rate of 30 frames per second, and benefits from digital image stabilization, a CMOS image sensor, an extensive special effects package and a back illuminated sensor (BSI). The Sprint Galaxy S III also offers a built-in music player with both customizable and preset equalizers, and support for popular applications Facebook, Picasa, Twitter and YouTube is present out-of-the-box.

The Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $0.01.
