If you happen to have AT&T for your wireless provider of choice and are rocking the carrier’s version of the Motorola Atrix HD, chances are you will be waking up to a notification that will let you know about the arrival of an update to your device. This is because the first over the air update for the Motorola Atrix HD is now rolling out. Nope, this is not the much awaited Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the handset – rather it is more of a maintenance update that brings a lot of goodies and treats to the device.

The Motorola Atrix HD is on sale now starting at 149.99.

Once the update has been applied to the Motorola Atrix HD, it will crank up the software version of the handset to 77.12.22. Not much can be said about the update as it is still based on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. Though this may be the case, users of the handset are still advised to apply this update to their Motorola Atrix HD handsets as soon as they can because it brings a plethora of bug fixes that are designed to somehow improve the performance of the handset.

With this update in play, the Wi-Fi connectivity feature of the Motorola Atrix HD gets enhanced where stronger connections will become apparent as soon as the update is in place. Not only that, the battery performance of the Motorola Atrix HD will also get optimized so expect a longer battery life on your handset after installing this update. The Camera application of the handset will also get a lot of enhancements which will significantly improve the low light performance of the handset. Blurriness will also be reduced and the update will allow for better color accuracy in the images turned out by the Motorola Atrix HD 4G LTE handset. Several new security patches are also included in the update along with new AT&T applications such as YPmobile and Smart Wi-Fi.

The update is now being pushed out to all users of the Motorola Atrix HD so if that little notification hasn’t come up on your device, you have the option of manually checking for the update by going to Settings > About phone > System updates and just hit that button to get the update process rolling.

As for the Motorola Atrix HD, the handset was announced back in July and it also hit the shelves in the same month. It has a QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset under the hood which brings to the device a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and a full gigabyte of RAM. The storage space onboard the device comes up to only 8GB but a dedicated memory expansion slot enables a user to add additional storage to the handset. Its display on the other hand is a 4.5-inch TFT panel with an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels while its camera department features a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP snapper.
