As of the moment, most of the Android-powered devices in the market are waiting to get updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system. However, there are still a handful of devices that are still stuck in the Gingerbread generation and are in turn waiting to get a taste of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. In the case of Motorola, the manufacturer came out late last week to give the smartphone-buying population an update regarding its ICS plans for the handsets in its lineup. Included in the list of devices mentioned in the update is the Motorola Atrix 2 which AT&T released in US shores.

The Motorola Atrix 2 is on sale now starting at 299.99.

Initially, the Motorola Atrix 2 was supposed to get updated to Ice Cream Sandwich this Q3 but based on the announcement of its manufacturer, the update was changed to “further plans coming soon”. The news did not sit well with users of the handset who have been waiting for the update to land for the longest time.

It is a good thing that Motorola was able to rectify things a bit when news about its plans to conduct an ICS soak test for the Motorola Atrix 2 came out a couple of days ago. And we all know that as soon as a soak test is conducted, an official software update rollout is expected to follow as long as things go well with the said soak test. It looks to be the case here because Motorola is now finally rolling out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to the AT&T Motorola Atrix 2 4G.

Motorola even shared the goodies and treats that ICS is supposed to bring to the handset. According to the manufacturer, the update will make the Motorola Atrix 2 more like the recently announced Motorola Atrix HD and Motorola Droid Razr M. In addition to that, Motorola confirmed that the ICS update will crank up the build of the Motorola Atrix 2 to 67.21.125 and bring lockscreen shortcuts, an improved notification bar and an all new look to the handset. That awesome Circle Widget will also come in tow so this update should be taken advantage of as soon as it becomes available on your device.

As for the Motorola Atrix 2, the handset was announced and released by AT&T back in October of last year. The smartphone has dimensions of 126 x 66 x 10 mm and it weighs in at 147 grams. Under the hood, the operation of the handset is powered by its Texas Instruments OMAP4430 chipset with its dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and 1GB of RAM. Storage space on the Motorola Atrix 2 comes up to 8GB with a microSD card slot in its chassis making memory expansion on the handset possible. Its display on the other hand is a 4.3-inch TFT capacitive multitouch panel with a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels while its dual-shooter configuration features a rear 8MP shooter and a secondary front-facing video call and self-portrait camera.

  1. No it is not, the soak test is sill underway. People have been saying For days it is rolling out but it has yet to hit any handsets except for those soak testing.

  2. All you android news sources need to stop. The rollout has not started to ATT users. I have been reading it for days and yet to receive an update on my Atrix 2. It is a soak test.

  3. Yes, nice job on reporting half of the story, getting my hopes up about something that hasn’t happened yet. If you did any investigation in the matter, you would learn: soak testers get the update (not all of the atrix 2 users), also Motorola had updated it’s website “ICS will rollout in Q4″. Which, is bogus that they just can’t say what month time frame, or use the economic quarters
