Even though the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system has been making waves around the Android community there are still some smartphones out there that are hoping to be upgraded to the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean software. One of those smartphones happens to be the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and on the AT&T network it looks like the software will be ready to download this week. The Android 4.3 update was sent out to the Galaxy S4 in October and since then the Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy S3 were on that same list.
AT&T and Samsung have been quiet about the situation, but reports are surfacing this week that those with the Galaxy S4 Active will be getting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean starting this week. Updates like this will usually take a couple of weeks as it will start out in phases and as long as there are not too many bugs, the update will continue until all of the users on the AT&T network have it installed. AT&T did actually post the entire change log for the update last week, but then customers noticed that it had been removed from the site the next day.
The change log that was noticed claimed the a Wi-Fi connection is required for the download as it is more than 700MB in size. Besides getting some improvements, Galaxy S4 Active users can expect the company to add some its own software at the same time. One of the main features will be the addition of Galaxy Gear support, as well as pre-loaded apps like Kindle, Lookout Security, City ID and more that are contained in that huge file size. Being able to drag and drop apps from the app drawer has been added, as well as many other features that were added to the Galaxy S4 a couple months ago.
The Galaxy S4 Active was launched back in June of last year and it is really just a beefed up version of the popular S4 from Samsung. The phone comes with a 5-inch, TFT touch screen display and 1080p HD resolution. The phone is also water and dust proof according to certifications that come along with it and weighs just more than 5 ounces. The phone has the quad-core Snapdragon 600 inside of it, 2GB of RAM and microSD card support for up to 64GB more storage.
