galaxysiiinewThe first 100 days of its global availability, the Samsung Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone tabulated an impressive 20 million units sold. Over the next 50 days it sold another 10 million units, and just 2 weeks ago Samsung announced their flagship smartphone had managed 40 million global sales. The first handset to outsell an iPhone while both units were available from the same carriers, the Samsung Galaxy S III 4G has been a success for all those wireless carriers which offer it.

And with the official announcement of the Galaxy S IV launch date probably just around the corner, you can expect to see off-line and online retailers discount the purchase price of the Galaxy S III. Such is the case at the Amazon Wireless store online, where the 16 GB Galaxy S III running on the speedy Verizon 4G LTE network is offered for around $69 on contract. The handset is available in a wide variety of colors, and officially hit Verizon’s 4G LTE network in the United States on July 12 of last year.

The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system is now located in more than 440 major markets in the United States, four times more than their nearest competitor AT&T. Slim and light considering the hardware it contains as well as the size of the display, the Verizon Galaxy S III 4G measures 5.39 x 2.80 x 0.34 inches (137 x 71 x 8.6 mm) and weighs 4.70 ounces (133 g). The 4.80 inch Super AMOLED screen employs more than 16 million separate colors when rendering visuals, and a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protects that display against scratching and chipping.

Pixel density and resolution both run to the high-end of the smartphone marketplace, at 306 pixels per inch and 720 x 1,280 pixels overall. On the pervasive Verizon 4G LTE network, the GS III delivers a full 15.0 hours of talk time from a single battery charge. That is nearly double the industry average of 8.0 hours, and standby battery power lasts approximately 8.3 days. The handset delivers NFC support out-of-the-box, has a built-in music player with both customizable and preset equalizers, and popular social networking applications Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Picasa have been pre-installed.

A dual core 1.5 GHz CPU powers the handset, and an Adreno 225 GPU focuses on graphics processing. 2.0 GB of RAM memory has been pre-installed into the Verizon Galaxy S III 4G, and the built-in microSD slot accepts additional memory cards up to 64 GB in size. Simultaneous HD video and image recording is capable via the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, and a front facing chat cam offers video call support. The Verizon Galaxy S III can also function as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for multiple wireless devices.
