Samsung just this week announced record-setting profits for the third quarter this year, pointing to phones like the Samsung Galaxy S III for helping drive approximately $7.3 billion in operating profits. And online tech analyst Localytics recently pointed out their research shows the Galaxy S III handset actually got a significant sales boost when the announcement of Apple’s copyright infringement lawsuit against Samsung was repeatedly delivered online. It seems the constant barrage of legal proceedings updates online drew attention to the large high-resolution screen, powerful dual core processor and overall Android feature package of the best-selling Galaxy S III smartphone, something Apple certainly did not intend.

The Samsung Galaxy S III for Verizon is on sale now starting at 149.99.

This has to be good news for the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in the United States where the Galaxy S III is offered by Big Red. After the success of the entire Galaxy S line for Samsung, the Galaxy S III had large shoes to fill, and has done so admirably to say the least. Globally the Galaxy S III has sold more than 50 million units, with more than 20 million units selling the first hundred days of availability. And on Verizon’s 4G LTE system, the handset has become a flagship phone for that wireless service provider.

The handset launched on July 12 for Verizon in the US, and delivers Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system, Near Field Communications (NFC) support, 2.0 GB of RAM system memory as opposed to 1.0 GB for the average 4G smartphone, and simultaneous HD video and image capture. NFC technology supports applications like Google Wallet, which allows for wireless retail payment processing, and apps like Android S Beam which allows the Galaxy S III to provide wireless data transfer with other GS III handsets.

Google recently announced that the GS III would receive an upgrade to the new Jelly Bean 4.1 Android operating system, but did not pin down a specific date or rollout schedule. The Verizon Galaxy S III is thin at 0.34 inches (8.1) and light at 4.70 ounces (133 g). The large 4.80 inch Super AMOLED display is one of the biggest found on any smartphone, and delivers a high-end resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, receiving scratch and chip resistance by a layer of second generation Corning Gorilla Glass.

The CPU on board is a speedy 1.5 GHz dual core model, and the handset delivers video capture at 1,080P HD resolution and in stereo sound. 16 GB of data storage are hardwired into the handset, and a microSD slot has been provided for storage expansion. Popular online social media destinations Facebook, Picasa, YouTube and Twitter have been pre-installed, and a front facing chat cam provides video call support.

Buy the Samsung Galaxy S III for Verizon now starting at 149.99.
