nexus5bThe Nexus 5 has been on the market for a few months now, is running the latest Android software and just appeared in the Google Play Store in the color red.  There are plenty of reasons to talk about the popular, unlocked smartphone from Google, but it’s the complaints that seem to be mounting as of late.  One specific issue, reportedly being blamed on the camera software, has more users going nuts than even before.  According to online sources, the problem comes in when users use the popular smartphone to record video.

The Nexus 5 records video in 1080p HD resolution and since the Android 4.4.2 update arrived, there has been one issue that just does not make sense to most.  Apparently, when a video that has been recorded with the Nexus 5, is played back, it produces a weird hissing sound users cannot seem to get rid of.  The first time the issue was reported was all the way back in November and is just now picking up steam as more users find the same thing happening to them.  The problem has been so bad that some users have decided it was time to trade their new Nexus 5 in and forget about it altogether.

Others that might have been in the market for the Nexus 5 have been waiting around for months to see if it was really the smartphone they wanted to upgrade to.  For the most part, some users were able to narrow it down to it happening when the Nexus 5 tries to utilize the stock Android camera software that came along with Android 4.4 KitKat.  This is what is leading most users, and Google, to think that it might be a software issue rather than a hardware issue.

A Google employee has commented on the complaints saying, “I want to assure you that Google is still working on this issue. At this point it’s looking like software, and not a hardware issue. If you’re experiencing this I do not recommend exchanging your Nexus 5 for a replacement. We’re investigating improving this behavior in a future update to the Nexus 5s operating system.”  For right now, it looks like anyone that is seeing this issue will have to wait until the next version of the Android KitKat software arrives for the Nexus branded devices.

  1. I was seriously thinking about purchasing the Nexus 5 but was waiting to see if they got most of the bugs out? However with only the hiss? I would probably still go ahead with my plan to purchase a Nexus 5, in any case it still is a worthy phone!
