If you happen to have Verizon for your wireless provider of choice and rock the Motorola Droid Razr HD for your mobile weapon of choice, chances are you should be waking up to a notification that lets you know of the arrival of an update on your handset. Don’t get too excited about it just yet because unfortunately, this isn’t the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update you’ve been waiting for.

The recently released Motorola Droid Razr HD is on sale at a reduced price at select online retailers now starting at 149.99.

Instead, the update is just a small security update for that matter but a rather important one at that so it is highly advisable to have this downloaded and applied to your Motorola Droid Razr HD as soon as you can. This rather small update that weighs in at approximately 6 MB (see how small it is?) is now being rolled out via the usual OTA manner so either you wait for that little notification to let you know of the update’s availability on your device or instead manually check for the update if you lack the patience of waiting for that notification to come up.

With the small nature of the update, we reckon that it would only take you about 3 – 5 minutes in having it downloaded and another 3 – 5 minutes to get it fully applied to your Motorola Droid Razr HD. Just a quick reminder, once the update is already being installed, you won’t be able to use your smartphone even for emergency calls so you better be aware of this as early as now.

This minor OTA update will crank up the Motorola Droid Razr HD’s software version to 0.7.2.XT926.Verizon.en.US. And based on the support documentation found in the official support site of the wireless carrier that contains the changelog of the said update, it is expected to bring an updated Google Security Patch to the handset. With this in play, users who rooted their Motorola Droid Razr HD 4G are advised not to have this update installed just yet as it may break root access on the handset. Aside from that security patch, the update will also bring support for the Isis Mobile Wallet payment system on the Motorola Droid Razr HD.

As for the Motorola Droid Razr HD, the handset was unveiled last September alongside the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD and Motorola Droid Razr M to complete the triumvirate of new Moto Droid Razr handsets. The smartphone runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich but is expected to get cranked up to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the near future. This is powered by the handset’s QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset with its dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and full gigabyte of RAM. Storage space on the handset comes up to 16GB with the option to have this expanded using the microSD card slot of the handset. Display-wise, the Motorola Droid Razr HD comes with a 4.7-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels while its dual-shooter configuration includes a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP video call and self-portrait camera.

Buy the Motorola Droid Razr HD at a reduced price now starting at 149.99.
