Last week, it was reported that Motorola initiated a soak test for the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the original Motorola Droid Razr released by Verizon Wireless in US shores. At that time, there was a lot of excitement among users of the Motorola Droid Razr because a soak test means that the rollout of the Android 4.1 refresh to the handset is already looming in the horizon. Since it looks like all went well with the said soak test, the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update is now rolling out to the Verizon Motorola Droid Razr.

The update is now being unleashed via the usual OTA manner so users of the Motorola Droid Razr can expect a notification to come up on their handsets once the update is already available and can already be taken advantage of. If you however lack the patience of waiting for the notification to show up, you also have the option of manually initiating the update process by going to Settings > About phone > System updates.

The Jelly Bean update for the Motorola Droid Razr weighs in at 338 MB and once applied to the handset will crank its Android version to 4.1.2 jelly Bean from Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and bump up its software version to version 98.72.16.XT912.Verizon.en.US. The update brings a whole lot of goodies and treats to the handset and these include enhancements, fixes and changes and these can be found below:

Enhancements:

  • New user interface
  • New Features such as Google Now
  • Improved Features such as Voice Search, Camera, Keyboard, Gallery, Notifications, Wi-Fi Hotspot and Chrome Browser

The update also brought fixes to the Motorola Droid Razr’s:

  • Quick Office
  • Outlook Sync
  • 3G & 4G Connectivity
  • Google Maps
  • Audio Settings
  • Music Playlists`
  • Contacts
  • Global Roaming

In addition to that, all sorts of bloatware on the Motorola Droid Razr have been removed and the My Gallery and My Music applications have been taken out and replaced with the standard Google apps.

As for the Motorola Droid Razr, the handset gained prominence when it was launched back in October of 2011 because at that time, it was the thinnest smartphone in the world with its 7.1 mm waistline. Not only that, the handset also boasted of impressive components under its hood. It has its circuitry built around a Texas Instruments OMAP4430 chipset which comes with a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and a full gigabyte of RAM. Storage space on the handset comes up to 16GB but the device also comes pre-installed with a 16GB microSD card for memory expansion purposes. As for its display, the Motorola Droid Razr comes with a 4.3-inch SuperAMOLED panel with a 540 x 960 resolution while its camera department features a rear 8MP shooter and a front 2MP snapper.

  1. Terrible update. Facebook contacts not appearing in Favorites widget. Verizon rep performed hard reset to fix but did NOT fix and all apps now deleted. Phone is now a paperweight that rings. Makes me want to move to new phone and OS.

  2. Loving my phone again after this update — running faster and smoother!! Looks great and especially love how it handles the selection and application of widgets!!

  3. After the upgrade I lost the notes app with priceless information …what a h…

  4. Lost favorite weather app, speech recognition went from just OK to completely unusable, synthesized voice when using hands-free dialing sounds like Gestapo. Thanks for going Google and making my phone almost completely useless for what I use it for (besides being an actual phone). A few more update like this and I’ll be lucky to make a simple phone call.

  5. Terrible. So many bugs. Spent an hour on the phone with support but nothing was fixed…. fix it or I’m switching phones. Iphones dont look so bad now..
