While some high-end smartphone users are eagerly waiting for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest Android mobile operating system version, to land on their respective devices, others have been waiting for the longest time for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to get rolled out to their handsets. This is the case of users of the LG Optimus 2X. Looking back, there was much confusion as to whether the handset will still get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich or will it get stuck in the Gingerbread generation. There have been a lot of rumors and speculations about the ICS update for the LG Optimus 2X in the past and it has actually been delayed a couple of times now. LG Canada even confirmed that the handset will no longer be getting the update but it looks like the journey of the handset to getting ICS is finally coming to an end – a rather happy end.

As it turned out, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update will also be released to the LG Optimus 2X and the rollout of the update is already happening as we speak. There is a caveat here though – the update is only currently available in Korea (no surprise here) but is also expected to be released globally soon. The update is rumored to land next on the Singapore version of the LG Optimus 2X but outside of the Asian continent, there has been no confirmation as to when ICS will become available to other territories.

The update is being rolled out via OTA as of the moment so a notification is bound to come up on your device to let you know once the update is already available on your LG Optimus 2X. If you are already running out of patient (and we don’t blame you) in waiting for that notification to come up, you also have the option of downloading the ICS ROM for the handset and just do a manual install. The update weighs in at a hefty 540MB and comes in a rather unusual .kdz format so if you are not sure about the process, you can head over to XDA Developers for the full instructions.

As for the LG Optimus 2X, this is the handset that paved the entry of dual-core handsets in the market. Its circuitry revolves around its NVIDIA Tegra 2 AP20H chipset which gives the smartphone a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1 GHz and 512 MB of RAM. Storage space on the handset is a bit measly at just 8GB but a user can further expand this using the handset’s microSD card slot. The LG Optimus 2X packs a 4.0-inch IPS LCD panel with a 480 x 800 resolution while its dual-shooter configuration includes a main 8MP shooter at its back panel and a 1.3MP video call camera at its frot bezel.
