If you happen to rock the LG Optimus 2X and are still patiently waiting for any solid word if your handset will get out of the Gingerbread generation and get upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the last couple of weeks must have been pretty confusing for you. After all, the handset along with the other 2011 LG devices has been splashed all over the headlines and had their share of digital ink. Sad to say, nothing has been confirmed as of yet. There have been conflicting reports regarding the ICS update for the LG Optimus 2X – some say the update was delayed, some say it will no longer land on the device and there are those who believe that there are enterprising retailers who faked the update to get rid of their stocks of the handset.

Today however, it looks like things are looking up for the LG Optimus 2X. LG’s Singapore division has already come out in the open and has confirmed that the handset will ultimately receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update in due time. The announcement was made via the official Facebook page of LG Singapore and if things do pan out, a lot of LG Optimus 2X users will definitely rejoice.

As of the moment, LG Singapore did not mention if the ICS update will only land on LG Optimus 2X handsets in Singapore or if it will see a global release. The important thing is that this is definitely good news for every user of the LG Optimus 2X out there. After all, if things pan out and an ICS update is rolled out to the handset in the Singapore region, it would definitely get rolled out to other markets as well. Sad to say, LG Global has kept mum on the subject so we will just wait for the notification to come up on these LG Optimus 2X handsets and pray that it will get released on a global scale. Come to think of it, the LG Optimus 2X is one capable device during its time and has paved the way for dual-core smartphones to break into the smartphone competition – it is after all the first dual-core powered handset to get released in the market back in the early parts of 2011.

As for the LG Optimus 2X, the handset is no longer a spring chicken and its internals are already showing its age. It has an NVIDIA Tegra 2 AP20H chipset under the hood and this gives the smartphone a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1 GHz and 512 MB of RAM. The storage of the device is pegged at 8GB but a microSD card slot in its chassis allows memory expansion on the LG Optimus 2X. Its display is a 4.0-inch IPS LCD panel with an 800 x 480 resolution while its camera department features a rear-facing 8MP shooter and a front-facing 1.3MP video call and self-portrait camera.
