It looks like the Android ecosystem is being given an early Christmas gift this year. After all, several devices have already gotten upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean this week and we can only begin to imagine the joy felt by users of the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III and Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE when the Android 4.1 refresh finally landed on their respective handsets. And the best part is that despite the fact that the week is nearly over, the Jelly Bean update spree in US shores does not seem to show signs of slowing down.

Today, the update spree continues but this time around, Jelly Bean is headed to a different carrier and a different manufacturer. This time around, it is the turn of the AT&T Motorola Atrix HD to get upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Looking back, it was reported last week that the update will happen sometime this month and today, it is finally happening. As it stands, AT&T confirmed that it already started the rollout of the update to the Motorola Atrix HD so users of the handset are getting their early Christmas gift as well.

As is always the case, the rollout of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to the Motorola Atrix HD will happen via the usual OTA manner so users of the handset may want to be on the lookout for that little notification that will let you know once the update is already available on your device. If patience is not your strong suit, you also have the option of manually checking for the update by going to Settings > About Phone > Software updates > Check Now to get the update process rolling.

Once the update has been applied to the handset, it will bring all the usual goodies and treats associated with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to the Motorola Atrix HD. In addition to that, the update also brings some treats specific to the handset such as:

  • Quick settings toggled by swiping from the home screen
  • Improved camera focus
  • New ‘filmstrip’ mode in the Gallery
  • Drive Smart feature which makes it safer to stay connected while driving

As for the Motorola Atrix HD, the addition of the handset to AT&T’s lineup of Android devices was announced back in July with the handset promptly hitting the shelves of the wireless provider during the same month. Its circuitry is built around the handset’s QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset which brings into play a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and a full gigabyte of RAM. The storage space on board the Motorola Atrix HD is a bit meager at just 8GB but shouldn’t be too much of an issue because a microSD card slot enables memory expansion on the handset. In terms of its display, the Motorola Atrix HD sports a 4.5-inch TFT capacitive multitouch panel with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels while its dual-shooter configuration includes a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP snapper.
