Today’s smartphone world is already being dominated by quad-core powered smartphones and when talking about these types of devices, HTC would always come up in the discussion. Looking back, HTC was the first manufacturer to give the world a superphone packing a quad-core processor under the hood. We are talking about what back then was known as the HTC Edge.

During the time that existence of the HTC Edge was already rumored, other manufacturers are still in square one in terms of coming up with a quad-core powered handset. HTC made it all a reality ahead of everyone else when the existence of the HTC Edge was confirmed. At that time, the smartphone-buying population was extremely excited about the prospect of a handset with the much power in its internals. Later on, the handset went through some name changes until it was finally announced as the HTC One X at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona back in February.  The HTC One X is currently available starting at $129 at select online retailers.

AT&T was quick to take advantage of the interest in the HTC One X and had the handset added on to its lineup of Android-powered devices and christened it as the HTC One X 4G. There was only one glaring difference though – AT&T’s version of the handset only had a dual-core processor under the hood. According to AT&T, the chipset of the original version of the handset did not have native support for its LTE network, hence the decision to go for the SnapDragon chipset which will pack full support for the said LTE network of the wireless provider.

Though some may think that the dual-core version of the handset is underpowered compared to its international sibling, benchmark results will prove otherwise because when the two handsets were tested, the HTC One X 4G from AT&T managed to get better scores than the international version of the smartphone.

Since AT&T released the handset back in May, the HTC One X 4G instantly became one of the hottest devices offered by the carrier and the only competition it got from the carrier’s stable was from the Samsung Galaxy S III, another quad-core monster. With the playing field already level, it would really be interesting to see who gets the better of whom when these two superphones are pitted against each other.

As for the AT&T HTC One X 4G, the handset comes with a QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset under the hood and this SoC gives the superphone dual-core capabilities with its Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. This processor in turn works in conjunction with a full gigabyte of RAM to ensure the smoothness of the handset’s performance. The storage space onboard the HTC One X 4G only comes up to 16GB and sad to say, this is no longer expandable. Display-wise, the HTC One X 4G comes with a massive 4.7-inch Super IPS LCD2 panel with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels while its camera department is just as impressive with its rear 8MP shooter and front 1.3MP video call camera, both of which are capable of recording clips at 1080p and 720p respectively.  You can buy the HTC One X starting at $129.
