htconeIt was just earlier this month that we heard HTC was releasing a new smartphone codenamed the M7. Recently it was reported that the handset would be named the HTC One, and that was confirmed when HTC CEO Peter Chou test drove the smartphone at its official unveiling on February 19. The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer has been hinting at device specifications and features, and employed a teasing countdown timer online leading up to the product’s debut.

The international release for the handset is March 8, with the new HTC one arriving in US stores on the 22nd of March. The HTCSource website first published the information obtained from the HTC One press conference, and the handset is reportedly going to be available for purchase from T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T. While not yet confirmed, rumors are that Verizon will also be licensed to sell the HTC One smartphone.

The handset will be named the HTC One when it goes on sale at T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T, and there are substantial rumblings that when Verizon gets their hands on the HTC One, it will be released as the HTC Droid DNA Plus. The handset will reportedly be available in either black or white, and come with either 32 GB or a whopping 64 GB of internal storage. The website also claims that pricing will run $199 for the 32 GB model, and $299 for the 64 GB, both of those coming as “on contract” prices.

The HTC One will also deliver the Beats Audio full range sound system, and offer dual front facing stereo speakers ensconced in an aluminum body. A 4.7 inch Full HD display and 1.7 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro central processor are a couple of other specifications the HTC One will offer. Delivering double the average amount of RAM system memory for a smartphone, the handset will offer 2.0 GB of RAM, and also a 4.7 ultrapixel camera which HTC claims will deliver the same high-end abilities as the Nokia 808 PureView 41 megapixel sensor.

HTC has made significant changes in the handset that they hope will help it better compete with the heavyweights from Samsung and Apple. While the HTC Sense user interface is not nearly as intrusive as some Android overlays, it has been improved and simplified on this handset. Also, the premium metal unibody design offers rugged durability and style, and enhanced stereo sound amplification will accompany Beats Audio. The new Snapdragon 600 quad core processor will deliver up to 40% more power than the Snapdragon S4 Pro, and offer less battery draw.
