The HTC Rezound 4G Android smartphone came into prominence as the first United States handset to deliver the full range Beats Audio sound system. HTC spent more than $30 million purchasing a controlling interest in the Beats by Dr. Dre audio technology last year, and was anxious to begin to recoup their investment. The HTC Rezound delivers on the Beats Audio promise to offer full range sound, and the handset ships with a pair of specially integrated Beats ear buds. The red and black lightweight ear buds were developed to exclusively work with the Beats Audio sound system, and they provide hands-free calling with a built-in microphone, as well as an on-cable remote that allows you to rewind, fast-forward and pause music selections to answer a call.

The display on the handset runs 4.30 inches and that Super LCD screen delivers a high-end resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels at an extremely high end 342 pixels per inch. Capacitive multitouch gestures are used to navigate the handset with the HTC Sense UI Android overlay. A light sensor is on board to automatically adjust for the appropriate brightness considering the ambient light present, and the onboard proximity sensor helps conserve battery life by dimming the display when you lift the handset to your face to make or receive a call.

Talk time runs 6.73 hours on a single charge of the 1,620 mA battery on board, and standby time runs around 11 days. And although the handset debuted in November of last year and is more than nine months “old”, the HTC Rezound still delivers one of the fastest processors in the entire smartphone marketplace. Powering the handset is a Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon microchip package which includes a dual core 1.5 GHz Scorpion central processor that benefits from the presence of an Adreno 220 GPU that handles all graphics processing. 16 GB of storage are built in and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is present. The built-in microSD slot also offers microSDHC support, and the HTC Rezound accepts cards up to 32 GB for extra storage.

On the back of the handset is an 8.0 megapixel camcorder with built-in dual LED flash which offers autofocus, white balance, ISO control, Geo tagging, special preloaded scenes and a special effects package. That camcorder records video in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080P HD) and at 30 frames per second, and the front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam is capable of 720P HD video recording. A Stereo FM radio with RDS joins the Beats Audio sound system and a proprietary YouTube video player in the multimedia package, and audio benefits from an SRS WOW HD sound enhancement and preset equalizer.  Buy the HTC Rezound starting at $99.
