droiddnaThe HTC Droid DNA 4G Android smartphone was recently spotted online at select retail outlets bearing a one penny on contract price tag. The price on the handset has been dropped at about the same time that substantial rumors have Verizon releasing a Droid DNA sequel. A few smartphone dedicated websites have posted leaked images of what appears to be a new Butterfly S smartphone, and those same websites conjecture that this is a follow-up to the HTC Butterfly (a.k.a. the Droid DNA on Verizon).

The HTC Droid DNA 4G is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $0.01.

Total conjecture at this point, the Blogosphere is also full of mention that a Droid DNA 4G successor will hit the Verizon Wireless network “in the coming months.” Whether or not a successor to the HTC Droid DNA smartphone is headed our way, the one penny price tag on the powerful hardware and software package the DNA 4G delivers makes for an outstanding bargain. The DNA 4G delivers one of the highest pixel densities of any phone ever designed, as well as a powerful quad core central processor, substantial RAM memory and Jelly Bean Android operating system.

Of course, the most notable characteristic of the Droid DNA 4G is the large 5.0 inch full HD 1,080P display which delivers 441 color pixels over each inch of display space. That gives the slim smartphone (0.38 inches or 9.73 mm) an overall resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels, and more than 16 million individual colors are used to render visual displays. The large 5.0 inch ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 screen is protected against your everyday wear and tear by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2.

Talk time on the pervasive Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States runs up to 12.6 hours, and the Droid DNA phone delivers popular YouTube and Picasa applications along with NFC wireless support out-of-the-box. The brain trust making all the decisions is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 system-on-a-chip, built around a quad core 1.5 GHz CPU. A powerful Adreno 320 graphics processor is also present, as is 16 GB of built-in closet space and a generous 2.0 GB of RAM system memory.

The rear facing snapper on the Droid DNA 4G delivers a unique Best Shot feature, taking a burst of several images and allowing you to choose the best. The high dynamic range mode (HDR) gives realistic duplication of light and dark better than those smartphone cameras without this feature, and by holding down the shutter button you can catch up to four shots per second. Video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution on the rear shooter, which contains an 8.0 megapixel lens and simultaneous HD video and image capture. The front facing 2.1 megapixel chat cam also offers an extra wide-angle lens.

The HTC Droid DNA 4G can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $0.01.
