Launched October 18 on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States, the long-lasting Droid Razr MAXX HD is a durable handset. The screen is protected against scratching by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass, rugged laser-cut Kevlar and aircraft grade aluminum make up the body, and both the interior and exterior are protected against water damage by a splashguard layer of nanocoating. The Droid Razr MAXX HD also received a security package from Motorola engineers. The handset is protected by a personal identification number locking system, a remote hard drive wipe you can access from any computer with an Internet connection, and government grade data encryption technology.

The recently released Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD is available at a special introductory price now starting at 199.99.

Available in your choice of either black or white, the handset offers the Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 operating system from Android out-of-the-box. Jelly Bean 4.1 is headed to the Droid Razr MAXX HD in an over the air update which should take place over the next few weeks, and present on the handset and exclusive to Verizon is the NFL Mobile football application. The handset is slim at 0.37 inches (9.3 mm), and the screen is one of the largest found on any handset, at 4.70 inches. The Super AMOLED display accepts standard capacitive, multitouch gestures, with a proximity sensor dimming the display when you lift the handset to your face when you make or receive a voice call for battery conservation. More than 16 million different colors are present on that screen, and both DLNA and microHDMI video out options are on board. The huge, extended life 3,300 mA battery delivers an impressive 13.0 hours of video playback, 21.0 hours of talk time, 10.0 hours of streaming video and 27.0 hours of streaming music when in Verizon 4G LTE coverage areas.

Standby time from a single charge runs approximately 15.5 days, and the handset delivers the most out-of-the-box, built-in data storage at 32 GB. The built-in microSD slot provides storage expansion for memory cards up to 32 GB, and the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX HD 4G contains 1.0 GB of LP DDR2 RAM system memory. Motorola includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 suite of microchips, and at its core is a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor. An Adreno 225 GPU is also on board, exclusively focusing on graphics processing.

Near Field Communications (NFC) wireless support for applications like Google Wallet and Android Beam is present, a proprietary YouTube video player has been pre-installed, and the built-in music player supports all major audio file formats. The handset can act as a central hub for multiple wireless devices through a Wi-Fi connection, and the rear facing 8.0 megapixel chat cam contains a built-in LED flash and f/2.4 lens aperture, recording video in 1,080P HD resolution. The Droid Razr MAXX HD also offers a front facing chat cam for portrait snapshots and video calls.
