lgg2Android 4.4 KitKat is making its way to more devices over the last few weeks and those that have the LG G2 recently got the announcement that it was time to upgrade their smartphones with the new software from Google.  The LG G2 is about one year old and is going to be replaced by the LG G3 sometime this year, but for now it is all about the operating system update.  According to some news sources posting online, those that have the LG G2 have been running into issues with the new software.

The Android 4.4 KitKat has been rolling along for the past two months and for the most part there have been very few problems.  The software update brings enhancements and more performance to the device along with other features and some bug fixes.  AT&T was the first of the major mobile carriers to issues the Android 4.4 KitKat update to LG G2 users and that was followed up by T-Mobile, Sprint and Canadian carriers shortly afterwards.  Verizon Wireless took the longest, but was finally able to get the update sent out starting last week.  Reported problems about the Android 4.4.2 software have been flowing in from the United States, as well as overseas.

Since Verizon Wireless was one of the last to get the update sent out, which was shortly before the reported issues started popping up many thought the issues were exclusive to Verizon Wireless.  That is not actually the case as more users on other mobile networks have been reporting issues as well.  One of the most common issues that have been getting reported is the drop in data connections over the LTE network.  Other users have noticed that the display is dimmer than it was before the update leading some to believe that LG added more shades to the brightness scale.

One of the most important things about a smartphone is the battery life.  Typically, it would be ideal that you can charge your battery to full and it will last all throughout the day with normal usage.  After the Android 4.4 KitKat update, users have been complaining the battery life is less than before.  There are many factors that play into battery life so make sure your display is not at 100 percent brightness and double check apps that use your location to make sure your GPS is not always on.

  1. I can speak on behalf of this personally. The battery life IS sub what it used to be. Although it is near the same if you don’t have your GPS on. I mean…it all depends on how much you use your phone. I find the screen to be just as bright regardless. The only issue that i have is when i restart the phone, once the home screen comes up, it displays an error involving gapps…so idk. Other than that i can’t complain (yet).

  2. It is so true with the battery issue. Before updated it to 4.4. kitkat my phone will last up to 15 hours , but now I only get about 9 hours. I need to mention that my habit have not change ( where using the phone is concerned). As for the brightness of the phone I have not noticed much. I hope they will fix this problem, as I got the Lg g2 for its battery and it’s camera .

  3. Had to change dimming function after receiving KitKat update from Verizon. Had display brightness set to automatic but every 10 seconds or so the display would dim to 20%, than back 60%. Had to set brightness manually before it drove me nuts. Don’t know how this will effect my battery yet.

  4. I installed the update and my phone battery life was horrible and the phone would not charge. After a factory reset I’m still at 4.4.2 but the battery life is awesome. Much better than even before the update. The screen is dimmer though.

  5. since kitkat update the audio in my lg g2 has been horrible .hissing noise when i use any earphones apart from those earphones shipped with it.i hate those lg earphones.they dont fit in my ears.i love my phone but i ca no longer enjoy music.i have tried factory setting but the hissing noise is still there.

  7. It’s hard to make sure GPS isn’t always on because the update has bundled location services and GPS as one function. If you want to update your weather to your actual location you have to have GPS on as well as location. Before the update, I could have location on GPS off, but not anymore.

  8. I have also noticed battery life, and I am also noticing that some of my apps freeze up, leaving me with a black screen and I have to reboot the phone to get it running again?

  9. I’ve definitely noticed an issue with my battery life. I used to be able to charge my phone every other day and still have about 13% battery but now it completely dies within a day’s time which sucks because I use it as my alarm clock. This morning it had died completely overnight with my typical usage and being at over 30% when I went to bed a few hours earlier. Also my camera quality has diminished almost like there’s an automatic oil filter applied to my pictures so nothing is crisp and clear anymore. I have trouble connecting to websites while on WiFi even though my signal is strong and 4g LTE takes forever now. I’m TOTALLY unhappy with this update.
