Landmark handsets and smartphones that deliver a new technology to a wireless service provider tend to do well where sales are concerned. They also become popular with smartphone shoppers because of the new features and technology they provide. Thus is the case with the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G, which was one of the first smartphones to deliver LTE connectivity to the new AT&T 4G LTE wireless network. That smartphone debuted in October of 2011 and has been a cornerstone handset for that network for more than eight months now. The Galaxy S II Skyrocket continues in the super successful line of Galaxy smartphones, and delivers the Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box with an Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 upgrade available over the air.

The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is currently available for purchase starting at $79 at select online retailers.

Slim at only 0.37 inches (9 mm) in thickness, the Galaxy S II Skyrocket nonetheless delivers a larger than average high-resolution screen and one of the fastest processors found on any smartphone. In the hardware package on board the handset, a Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon microchip suite handles operations, and includes a dual core 1.5 GHz Scorpion central processor and graphics specific Adreno 220 chip which handles all graphics processing. Additional storage space can be added using the built-in microSD slot, which also supports microSDHC cards up to 32 GB.

The Super AMOLED Plus display runs 4.50 inches, and visuals are produced in more than 16 million separate colors and delivered in more than 200 pixels per inch. That provides the Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G with an overall screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, and multitouch, capacitive gestures are supported by the Samsung TouchWiz UI v4.0 that provides device navigation. The 1,850 mA battery on board delivers 7.00 hours of talk time from a single charge, and approximately 10.4 days standby time.

High resolution video capture in stereo sound is capable with the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder at 1,080P HD resolution, and that rear snapper also contains a video light and built-in LED flash for low light camera operation. Autofocus, geo-tagging, a panorama widescreen mode and smile detection features are also on board. Also found in the camera combo is a front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam which provides video capture at 720P HD resolution, and also offers video call support.
