Released on November 6 of last year, the Samsung Galaxy  S II Skyrocket Android smartphone is exclusive to AT&T’s new 4G LTE wireless broadband network. One of the first smartphones to arrive on that 4G LTE system, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is available in either black or white, and recently received a retail price reduction to $99 at select AT&T authorized retailers with a standard two-year agreement and data plan. The Samsung Galaxy  S II Skyrocket is designed in the familiar candy bar form factor typical of today’s handsets, and arrives on the market as a flat, rectangular slab. Measuring 5.11 x 2.71 x 0.37 inches (129.8 x 68.8 x 9.49 mm) and weighing 4.60 ounces (130 g), the handset is average in size and weight when compared to all other 4G smartphones.

Powering the device is a Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon chipset, which includes a dual core Scorpion central processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and an Adreno 220 chip designated for handling graphics duties. 16 GB of storage are built into the handset, and 1.0 GB of RAM memory rounds out the hardware profile. A microSD slot is built in and allows for storage expansion, and a micro USB port is on board for charging the handset. Android’s Gingerbread operating system is present out-of-the-box, and popular online destinations Facebook, Picasa, Twitter and YouTube have been preloaded into the Skyrocket.

The display is one of the largest of all 4G smartphones, at 4.50 inches, and delivers 480 x 800 pixel resolution at 207 pixels per inch. That Super AMOLED Plus screen designed by Samsung is equipped with light and proximity sensors that automatically adjust for the best display brightness, and shut the handset off when not in use. 16 million unique colors are used to render visuals, and the Galaxy S II Skyrocket display is protected by a glare reducing and scratch resistant layer of treatment.

The camera combo on board the Galaxy  S II Skyrocket includes a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder and front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam. The camcorder comes equipped with an LED flash and video light to allow for camera operation in low light situations, and records video in 1080P HD resolution. AT&T’s mobile hotspot service is built into the handset, and allows you to use the Galaxy  S II Skyrocket as a central hub for wireless access of multiple digital devices. 7.00 hours of consecutive talk time are delivered from a single charge of the 1,850 mAh battery, and 11 days standby is provided.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket starting at just $99.
