lumia928Recently spotted with a reduced retail price tag of $29 on contract, the Nokia Lumia 928 runs on the speedy and pervasive Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in the US. Released in mid May of this year, the phone offers a large HD+ touchscreen, a powerful PureView camera with a Xenon flash, and the latest Windows Phone 8 operating system. The phone has no microSD slot, but compensates by providing a whopping 32 GB of built-in storage space.

When the Nokia Lumia 920 hit the mobile marketplace, the PureView camera and PureMotion HD+ on that display were instant hits. However, the Lumia 920 is a large and “chubby” handset. Nokia designers went back to the drawing board, and they successfully made the 928 slimmer and less bulky than the 920. But the good news is that all the popular characteristics of the 920 were retained, and the Nokia Lumia 928 can be considered a slimmed down and beefed up version of its predecessor.

The loudspeaker on the Nokia Lumia 928 is an advanced model, capable of exactly reproducing sound as it was recorded. That is important since the 928 receives the benefit of three high end HAAC (high audio amplitude capture) microphones. The combination of these three microphones recording sound simultaneously allows for true sound duplication, as well as distortion-free capture. Because of this, the Nokia Lumia 928 can record sound up to 140 dB (the level of sound an airplane makes on liftoff) totally free of distortion.

The phone is slim at 0.40 inches in thickness (10.1 mm), but delivers a large 4.50 inch display. True HD+ resolution is provided at 768 by 1,280 pixels, a pixel density rating of 332 pixels per inch. The AMOLED display boasts more than 16 million different colors, light and proximity sensors help extend battery power by automating tasks like display brightness adjustment and display dimming, and the screen is protected by a layer of scratch resistant glass. Battery conservation efforts help the Lumia 928 handset deliver twice the standard amount of talk time, a full 16.20 hours after a full charge.

The Nokia Lumia 928 for Verizon also offers an amazing 25.2 days of standby battery power after the 2,000 mA cell has been fully charged. A Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 system chip powers the handset, and is built around a dual core 1.5 GHz central processor. An Adreno 225 GPU handles all graphics processing, and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board. The premier camera is an 8.7 megapixel PureView model that uses a floating f/2.0 Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, optical image stabilization (OIS) and Xenon flash to provide 1,080P HD resolution video capture. A front facing chat cam is also present, the Internet Explorer 10 web browser is on board, and both Facebook and Twitter applications are ready for use out-of-the-box.
