Motorola ATRIX HD Borrows Razr 4G Style, Protection

The Motorola Atrix HD is a 4G Android smartphone running on the AT&T 4G LTE system in the United States. That handset hit the smartphone marketplace on July 15, and borrows Droid Razr 4G and Droid Razr MAXX 4G styling. A layer of Corning Gorilla Glass protects the screen from scratching and chipping. And the familiar Kevlar back plate and appearance of those two handsets is in full effect on the Atrix HD, with a splash resistant, nanocoating on the insides of the handset offering an extra layer of protection. However, unique to the handset that was not found on the previous Razr models is Motorola’s SMARTACTIONS application.

That free app suggests different applications and settings that help enhance performance and conserve battery life, but that also cater to your most frequent operations and tasks. They also suggest automating specific everyday tasks, such as turning off Wi-Fi when you reach your home or office, or launching a specific application when you get in your car. The handset measures 5.26 x 2.75 x 0.33 inches (133.5 x 69.9 x 8.4 mm) and weighs 4.94 ounces (140 g), making it thin and light compared to other 4G smartphones.

The handset delivers a larger than average screen, at 4.50 inches, and Motorola’s ColorBoost technology makes for vibrant colors and sharp images. Resolution on the Atrix HD runs 720 x 1,280 pixels, delivered at a high-end pixel density of 326 pixels per inch. That TFT touchscreen accepts capacitive, multitouch gestures for device navigation, a light sensor is built in for auto brightness adjustment, and a proximity sensor helps conserve battery life.

The battery on board the Motorola Atrix HD 4G LTE Android smartphone runs 1,780 mA, and provides an above average 9.00 hours talk time from a single charge. The handset runs Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system out-of-the-box, and is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chip set that revolves around a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processing unit. A separate Adreno 225 GPU focuses on all graphics requests, and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board. 8.0 GB of data storage are built-in, with a microSD slot providing storage expansion, supporting cards up to 32 GB.

Facing the Atrix HD user is a 1.3 megapixel VGA quality chat cam, and around back is an 8.0 megapixel camcorder which records video in 1,080 P HD resolution. YouTube, Facebook and Picasa social media applications have been pre-installed, and the Atrix HD 4G LTE handset contains a built-in music player which filters by album, artist and play list, and also provides background playback and album art cover. A loudspeaker is built into the handset for hands-free operation, and a microHDMI slot provides video out connectivity.
