The Motorola Atrix HD 4G Android smartphone offers a vast departure from the old Atrix handsets physically. Motorola borrows the popular Kevlar backing and splash resistant, nanocoating interior feature of the Droid Razr and Droid Razr MAXX handsets, and caps the display with a scratch resistant and glare reducing layer of Corning Gorilla Glass to make for a rugged handset. The handset debuted on the AT&T 4G LTE network in the United States on July 15 this year. The Motorola Atrix HD delivers the unique SMARTACTIONS application, a free app that suggests performance-enhancing and battery conserving customizations and personalizations that automate everyday tasks.

The Atrix HD delivers the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system out-of-the-box, and is thin compared to other smartphones. The handset measures 5.26 x 2.75 x 0.33 inches (133.5 x 69.9 x 8.4 mm) and weighs 4.94 ounces (140 g). With an above average screen size of 4.50 inches, displays are represented in more than 16 million colors, and Motorola ColorBoost technology delivers vibrant colors and sharper images. Overall screen resolution runs 720 x 1,280 pixels, delivered at 320 pixels per inch to the TFT touchscreen.

Talk time on the Atrix HD 4G LTE runs above average for a 4G smartphone, at 9.00 hours, and standby time is approximately 8.5 days on a single charge of the 1,780 mA battery on board. On the hardware side of the equation, the handset is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8960 chip set that is centered around a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor. That chip joins a graphics dedicated Adreno 225 GPU in the hardware package, 8.0 GB of storage are built into the handset, and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board. A microSD slot also supports microSDHC cards, offering storage expansion up to 32 GB. video out is provided through a built-in HDMI port.

The handset has an 8.0 megapixel camcorder integrated into its back, and a 1.3 megapixel chat cam rides around front. That rear snapper delivers image stabilization, digital zoom, autofocus and LED flash, and provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution and 30 frames per second. And with the time-lapse video feature, you can also snap high resolution images while shooting video in HD. Facebook, Picasa and YouTube social media applications have been pre-installed, and a built-in music player is also on board. The Motorola Atrix HD 4G Android smartphone can act as a central hub for multiple wireless devices, and supports voice dialing, voice memo recording and other voice commands.
