With a sleek black chassis, quad core processor and one of the largest high resolution screens on any smartphone, the LG Optimus G arrived on the Sprint 4G LTE network on November 11. Space is maximized, and even though the handset delivers a large 4.7 inch display, the LG Optimus G is actually 5 mm smaller in height and 2 mm smaller in width than the Galaxy S III. Sprint has included their Sprint ID service, the handset delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) wireless support out-of-the-box, and double the average RAM memory for a smartphone is present.

The LG Optimus G is available for a reduced price at select online retailers now starting at 149.99.

The Sprint ID service gives you the ability to customize your phone with preselected widgets and applications packages. There are 59 different available ID packs thus far, and they range from music applications for popular television stations like CMT and MTV, to sports apps such as Fantasy Football and ESPN. The handset also delivers an optional “Power Saver” mode which kicks in when your battery falls under 30% power, and you can set your LG Optimus G to operate in battery-saving Eco-Mode as opposed to standard mode, using only two cores as opposed to all four cores of the CPU.

The handset also delivers a Video Wiz application that allows you to string together photos and edit video, and the QuickMemo app lets you jot or sketch on the screen using a compatible stylus. The Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 Android operating system arrives out-of-the-box working in tandem with the LG Optimus UI version 3.0 Android overlay. The handset measures 5.19 x 2.71 x 0.33 inches (131.9 x 68.9 x 8.45 mm) and weighs 5.11 ounces (145 g).

The 4.70 inch True HD IPS+ Touch Hybrid Display on the LG Optimus G 4G for Sprint is the first smartphone from LG to offer Zerogap Touch Display technology, and that means truer colors and better viewing outdoors and at extreme angles. Display resolution runs at the extreme high end of the mobile marketplace at 768 x 1,280 pixels, delivered at a generous 318 pixels per inch. More than 16 million colors are present in that display, and a layer of Gorilla Glass offers scratch and chip resistance.

The 2,100 mA battery on board delivers 13.0 hours of talk time from a single charge, much better than average for a 4G smartphone, and the chip set used to power the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 suite. The quad core Krait central processor has been clocked at 1.5 GHz, and an Adreno 320 GPU handles all graphics processing. 2.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board, as is 32 GB of built-in data storage, and the rear facing 13.0 megapixel camcorder provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution. A front facing chat cam is also on board, and the built-in music player offers Dolby Mobile sound enhancement features.
