The HTC One X reached official status when it was announced back in February over at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona but only managed to hit the shelves of AT&T in May. Since then, the handset has become one of the bestselling devices of the carrier despite the entry of other heavyweight handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S III.

The handset has a colorful history when you come to think of it. In fact, it has the distinction of being the first handset in the world to pack a quad-core processor under the hood and this dates back when it was still known as the HTC Edge from late last year. Back then, quad-core superphones were just plans in the drawing boards of other OEMs but HTC already managed to make it a reality when news of the existence of the HTC Edge leaked out.

However, the moniker did not stick as we all know now. The handset even went through several name changes before settling down for the HTC One X name. Seeing a hit, AT&T immediately worked with HTC to bring the handset in our side of the world where it was christened as the HTC One X 4G when it hit the shelves of the carrier. There is one glaring difference though from the original quad-core version of the handset – AT&T’s variant only comes with a dual-processor under the hood because the quad-core chipset of the international version of the device did now pack support for the LTE network of the wireless provider.

Though some would think that the power under the hood of the AT&T HTC One X 4G LTE was halved due to the reduced cores in its chipset, it was actually the opposite. In fact, the two versions of the handset were placed head to head in a series of benchmark tests and the AT&T HTC One X 4G actually managed to get better scores that its international sibling. Because of these impressive components and capabilities of the handset, the HTC One X 4G remains as one of the bestselling handsets over at AT&T despite stiff competition from the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S III. The incoming iPhone 5 will be another threat but we are pretty sure that the HTC One X 4G will do just fine.

As mentioned earlier, the HTC One X 4G only has dual-core capabilities and this courtesy of the QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset in its internals with its dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. The RAM of the HTC One X 4G comes up to 1GB while its storage space is pegged at 16GB. Sad to say, there is no option for memory expansion on the device due to its sealed nature. The handset makes up for this with its glorious 4.7-inch Super IPS LCD2 display with a 1280 x 720 resolution which many say is the best in the industry today. The camera department of the handset is just as impressive with its rear 8MP shooter and front 1.3MP video call and self-portrait camera.
