In today’s smartphone competition, quad-core powered handsets are slowly making their way into the market and all this can be blamed on the HTC One X. Looking back, the handset has the distinction of being the first smartphone in the world to pack a quad-core processor under the hood and this dates back to the time when it was still known as the HTC Edge from late last year. Since then, the handset has gone through a couple of name changes only to be announced as the HTC One X 4G over at Mobile World Congress back in February.

Once it finally got released in the US market as the HTC One X 4G back in May, the handset immediately reigned over the Android ecosystem because of the components and capabilities that it brings to the table. The entry of the Samsung Galaxy S III, another quad-core monster, effectively leveled the playing field and ended the domination of the HTC One X 4G in the Android platform. With the two superphones already available in the shelves, it would be interesting to see which gets the better of whom as time goes by.

Though this may be the case, there are still a lot of nice things going on for the HTC One X 4G. Since getting released by AT&T in May, the handset has always been in the upper portion of the smartphone leaderboards of the wireless provider. However, it was always in the third spot where the first and second spots are occupied by the Apple iPhone 4S and the Nokia Lumia 900 4G, respectively.

More recently, there are reports that the HTC One X 4G has already taken the second spot from the Nokia Lumia 900 4G and is now running a close second to the iPhone 4S based on the channel checks conducted by Cannacord Genuity. According to the study, the Nokia Lumia 900 4G was at the second spot in both April and May but for the month of June, the HTC One X 4G managed to outsell the Windows Phone handset from Nokia. Not only that, the Nokia Lumia 900 4G is also expected to slide down the charts with the entrance of the Samsung Galaxy S III to the lineup of AT&T.

As for the HTC One X 4G, this version of the handset released by AT&T does not pack the quad-core processor of its international version because its chipset does not pack native support for the LTE network of AT&T. The handset instead packs a QualComm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 chipset under the hood with a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and a full gigabyte of RAM. The internal storage of the handset comes up to 16GB while its 4.7-inch display is of the SuperIPS LCDd2 panel with a 1280 x 720 HD resolution. Its camera department on the other hand outfits the HTC One X 4G with a rear-facing 8MP shooter while its front bezel is home to the handset’s 1.3MP self-portrait and video chat camera.  Buy the HTC One X starting at $119.
