htconeMay was the first full month of availability for the HTC One 4G Android smartphone in the United States. The flagship HTC smartphone has been well received by both analysts and mobile handset shoppers alike, and recent evidence shows that since its debut the HTC One has delivered the smartphone manufacturer’s highest sales figures for nearly 11 months. Citigroup Global Markets analyst Kevin Chang says his research leads them to believe that 1.2 million HTC One smartphones were sold this May, and he went on to state in a recent interview that he expects at least that many to be sold in June as well.

The HTC One 4G is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $49.99.

That one month sales number for the HTC One is better than any handset that HTC has released going all the way back to June of last year. That 1.2 million units figure is up a full 100% from April numbers, and some analysts have tagged it the “best Android phone ever designed.” What is even more impressive regarding the sales in April and May is the fact that HTC dropped the ball, and suffered some supply issues when the handset first launched. These numbers could be substantially higher, and point to continued sales support in the future now that the smartphone manufacturer has its supply issues remedied.

Even with demand outstripping supply, the HTC One has surpassed analysts expectations. The Tapei Times reported that Citigroup originally called for 1.0 million HTC Ones as a projection for May, so the 20% increase is good news for HTC. A French tipster recently tweeted that the Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system and Sense 5 user interface would be arriving for the HTC One 4G on June 12. There is no official confirmation nor denial of this unofficial announcement, but the head of HTC Russia in April stated that the Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system update would occur “sometime in the middle of June.”

The phone was awarded green machine status as environmentally friendly, achieving the platinum certification by independent third-party testing lab UL Environment. Delivering the highest pixel density of any smartphone ever created at 468 pixels per inch, the HTC One 4G offers a 4.70 inch Full HD display with 1,080 x 1,920 pixel resolution. The Super LCD 3 screen is protected by a scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2, and accepts standard multitouch, capacitive gestures.

A full 16.0 hours of talk time or 8.5 hours of video playback can be achieved from a full battery charge, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 APQ8064T system chip powering the handset revolves around a powerful 1.7 GHz quad core processor. 2.0 GB of RAM is also on board, as is 32 GB of built-in storage space and a microSD slot for storage expansion.

The HTC One 4G can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $49.99.
