At the moment, rumors about Verizon releasing its version of the HTC One haven’t been put to rest yet but according to HTC PR exec Tom Harlin, the HTC Droid DNA 4G remains as the hero smartphone of the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer at Big Red. Harlin further commented that despite the fact the handset was released in 2012, its components are more than powerful enough to enable it to be at par with 2013’s current batch of superphones.

The HTC Droid DNA 4G is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $49.99.

The HTC Droid DNA 4G however is stuck with an older version of HTC Sense, the custom user interface overlaid atop its Android operating system. There was a custom ROM released back in March that gave users of the handset a taste of Sense 5.0 but there has been no confirmation from HTC if an official update will make its way to the HTC Droid DNA 4G to give it an official Sense 5.0 taste.

However, there could be a possibility that an official Sense 5.0 update is headed to the HTC Droid DNA 4G. At the moment, this is just based on speculations but could users of the handset are hoping that this would pan out soon. The source of these rumors and speculations is an announcement from Jack Tong, president of HTC North Asia, that the HTC J Butterfly, the global version of the HTC Droid DNA 4G released in Asia, will get an update that will bring Sense 5.0 to the handset by the end of the month.

The update headed to the HTC J Butterfly will not only give it a taste of Sense 5.0 but will also bring to the handset features found in the HTC One such as BlinkFeed and the slide show feature for its camera. Although there was no confirmation if this same update will also make its way to the HTC Droid DNA 4G, it would be interesting to see if this update will be made available to the Verizon HTC smartphone.

Regardless of whether or not the HTC Droid DNA 4G gets a taste of Sense 5.0 and the other features found in the HTC One, the handset is still one impressive device. Simultaneously unveiled and launched back in November 2012, the HTC Droid DNA 4G measures 141 x 70.5 x 9.7 mm, tips the scales at a 141.7 grams and boasts of a 5.0-inch display that enables it to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note II in the phablet category of the smartphone competition.

Under the hood, the circuitry of the HTC Droid DNA 4G revolves around a Qualcomm MDM615m/APQ8064 Snapdragon chipset while a quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor is complemented by 2GB of RAM in delivering the computing power needed by the handset for a flawless performance. The onboard storage of the HTC Droid DNA 4G is a bit meager though at just 16GB with only 12GB available for user content and no option for memory expansion. In terms of its display, the handset comes with a 5.0-inch Super LCD3 panel with a 1920 x 1080 resolution while its camera department includes a main 8MP shooter at its back panel and a secondary 2.1MP snapper in its front bezel.

The HTC Droid DNA 4G can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $49.99.
