Will the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G finally get updated to ICS on June 12?

Among the handsets in the lineup of Motorola, the Droid Razr Maxx 4G perhaps is the most capable among the bunch. The handset brings to the table an impressive set of components and capabilities but what sets it apart from the rest of the smartphone pack is its massive 3300 mAh power pack. This gigantic battery, figuratively that is, basically gives the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G a battery life unlike what we’ve seen in the past. With the handset’s support for the LTE network of Verizon and the fact that LTE connectivity is a major battery hog, the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G’s massive battery ensures that you have enough juice to enjoy all the perks that goes along with your handset.

Despite all the good things that have been said about the handset in the past, there is still a missing part in its equation and that is the upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. With all the other flagship devices from other manufacturers already upgraded to the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system, the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G is disadvantaged in this department and is still stuck in the Gingerbread generation. In fact, when Motorola first came out with its ICS update list back in February, the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G was still in the Planning and Evaluation phase of its ICS development. This simply means that the handset still has a long way to go before it finally gets a treat of Ice Cream Sandwich.

More recently however, the manufacturer took center stage to give an update about the status of its ICS development for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G. With this updated ICS list, the handset is now in the Development phase but what really caught our attention is the fact that the official ICS rollout for the smartphone is slated to get rolled out by the end of Q2.

Initially, the update was supposed to hit the airwaves last May 21 but certain updates were done in the servers of Verizon which basically delayed the rollout of the update. The wireless provider confirmed that the OTA update of Ice Cream Sandwich for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G will now be unleashed come June 12 but the delay brought about one good thing for the handset – instead of just getting 4.0.3, the handset will stand to get updated to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich instead. Though a lot of users of the handset got disappointed with the delay, we are able to rationalize that ICS will still land on the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G, no matter what.  The question is though will it be as reported, or like with so many other handsets, will the 12th come and go with no sign of it.  Please feel free to leave comments reporting whether you did or did not get an update today.

Of course, if you happen to be the brave and adventurous type, you always have the option of having an unofficial ICS build flashed on your Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G. But if you’ve already waited this long for the official version of the update, what’s another couple of days of waiting for the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to land on your Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G for that matter?

  11. This reminds me off waiting on froyo and GB, does it ever end… we are all tech slaves to latest and greatest. I bought my razr maxx, when it was first released… I was told that a Ics was comming soon.. haha.. now a promise of june 12, and still nothing.. In a perfect world maybe… and customer satisfaction remained a companies core instead of the old carrot on a string trick.

  12. Just spoke with a Verizon Rep and ths update goes by identification number and depending on your identification number it can be anywhere from now and 4 weeks before the the devices are updated.

  13. nothing here in norther new jersey/new york city area…..waiting very impatiently now at this point….I can’t take another delay…

  14. I am seriously ready to throw my maxx and the wall and never buy another motorola product EVER! I’m touted of all of motorola lies and empty promises.

  15. NO ICS TODAY MY FRIENDS….CONTACT VERIZON & MOTOROLA

  16. Wow, seriously people relax. It is just an android update, there are way more important things to worry about. And trust me, I want it too, but there is nothing worth flipping out about. Who cares if its now or 4 weeks from now.

  17. Just got off the phone with Moto and rep told me verbatim ICS release in two months, or second quarter. WTF????? These people are complete fill in the blank __________________ !!!!!

  19. im in the east coast and just now got the update its downloading as we speak

  20. I’m just gonna hang out with my. 79 leak till the OTA gets rooted.

  21. still NO UPDATE HERE IN JOHNSTOWN PA as of 12:35 pm,,,,they can mess with the data pack’s but not give us what we pay for!! i have 5 lines with them,(verizon) and its always a money thing with them,,,we might have to pay for the ICS update!!

  22. I don’t know if its a Motorola or Big Red whoops so I’ll blame both. I will blame Motorola for saying late last year that the RAZR/MAXX would receive ICS “early 2012″. I will also Blame Big Red (aka Verizon) for being so slow to push out OTA updates. According to Motorola rep (not sure if the report is true or not) that Verizon received the ICS update late March. Which would make some sense as they pushed an update that was needed before they push out ICS.

I have a feeling we may not see the update until July so they could push both updates (ICS and Global) at same time. I have no info to back this though up with, just my gut reaction.

  23. Nothing in san francisco

  24. Nothing in Kansas

  25. Nothing here in ChiCaGO Yet! SMH

  26. Seems like two people already have claimed to receive the ics update. Oreilyye, can you take a screen shot or picture after your download/installation finishes? It’ll help everyone calm down a bit.

  27. Lets all just freak out because we aren’t getting what we want, when we want it… I mean really now? I am wanting to get the new software update, but that doesn’t mean I am not happy with my phone RAZR as it is now, I just want it to be better. A lot of times things don’t go exactly how we want them to go, it doesn’t mean you are getting screwed or ripped off. Welcome to the real world!

  28. Wow. How to sound like an entitled lunatic in one small sentence – “I am seriously ready to throw my maxx and the wall and never buy another motorola product EVER!”

Bruce, I could tell you about review, testing, and “baking” but it would probably fall on deaf ears. Do you think Motorola is doing this TO you, or they want delays? I’ve had my RAZR since last November and while I’m grumpy and anxious, I was never “promised” anything. And Motorola and Verizon don’t owe me anything. (Except maybe an upgrade voucher to a MAXX) :P

  29. Are people seriously getting the update, or just trolling?

I’ve probably checked for an update over a hundred times with no luck. I’m also on the East coast and I haven’t gotten it yet. Neither has my girlfriend and she’s been checking constantly just to shut me up. Haha.

This seems to be the only site that even talked about it today, not including forums. Does anyone really have the legit release?

  30. Well I know one thing, it certainly can’t live up to the buildup/anticipation that the delays have caused!

    Still nada in so flo

  31. @Greg that may be your personal opinion but to those who bought the phone for ICS it’s becoming a red flag toward Verizon. The reason being is they have an understanding of when the update will be released but fail to notify their consumers and in doing so release date ‘rumors’ are spread.

  32. Oreilyye; until you post a screen shot I’m calling you out as a troll

  33. So I just got off the phone with Motorola and they said at first Q3!?! Then they said end of the month…. maybe. So more waiting…. Grrrr

  34. Wait! I see the OTA now flying over the midwest, sign no update today. My razr came from moto not one of the stores. No update foe me.

  35. just got off live chat with motorola “still in testing, no dates set”

  36. If u want ics buy a new phone. I like my maxx the way it is. If the update comes great I’d not oh well.

  37. Dont guess its coming? I hope that i gets more and more press so it hopefully pressures Motorola into releasing it sometime before JellyBean comes out. FU Moto. Love thew phone still..Ging to go ahead and attempt ICS Rom, been holding out for today…OH WELL, should have known.

  38. Dont guess its coming? I hope that it gets more and more press so it hopefully pressures Motorola into releasing it sometime before JellyBean comes out. FU Moto. Love thew phone still..Going to go ahead and attempt ICS Rom, been holding out for today but…OH WELL, should have known.

  39. I’ll say this, I’m in VA and today is the first time I’ve ever got a 4G signal. Not sure if that means anything, but thought I’d throw it out there.

  40. People need to stop telling everyone to relax. The difference between getting it today and weeks from now is….get ready for it….we get it now. It’s not bad that we want our phone to have the newest and the best. We pay ridiculous amounts of money for this tech. Lay off. Oh, and no update in northern California yet

  41. RonB-agreed. This is the only site that is actually discussing this update. Nothing here in Southern Cal. I’ve been checking since 6AM.

  42. I am not sure if you all have tried doing an update several times, but now I am getting a message saying “Check for update is not available at this time. Try again later.”

I have a good feeling something is for sure going down at the moment, so lets hope we do get something…

  43. OMG I WANT ICS OMG OMG IM FREEEEEAAKKKKIN OUT!!!!!!!!!! F*******K!!!!!! WHERES MY ICS WHERE IS IT WHERE IS IT!?!?!?!?!?!? YOU SHOULD SEE ME RIGHT NOW, I’M LIKE THE “GINGERS DO HAVE SOULS” KID ONLY WITHOUT THE RED HAIR!!! I’M GOING TO START TAKING HOSTAGES SOON! I’M GOING TO WRITE MY F****N CONGRESSMAN!!!!!!! F**************K!!!!!!

  44. People have the right to be ancy/frustrated at the no update OR proper communication. Working for a large organization myself, it seems to hold true that most people are not smart and politics rule companies where actual communication about something like this gets held up in approvals and mgmt that got their position by not being able to do any real work well.

Where did the date of June 12th come from? Was it a blogger or “insider information”? We shouldn’t forget the CNET’s of the world that cause this anticipation and also post nothing to let readers hear it from them that their source wasn’t good, things changed, etc

It’s comical how for almost a year the ICS discussion has taken place and how it’s allowed by anyone to give the people that keep their revenue coming in (ahem, us) the run-a-round.

Communicate!! Just tell us if it’s today, the 30th, next year, whenever! I bought this phone (RAZR) and as a bonus in my mind it was going to get ICS early 2012. Only to find out a phone with a MUCH better battery life would come out a month and a half later and ICS would be surrounded by rumor and disappointment. People shouldn’t stand for this abuse. Really.

  45. @Dex I’ve been googling all day, and all I’ve seen were a bunch of “Nothing yet in ______” or “It’s all Moto/Verizons fault”. None of the sites that spouted the June 12th rumor are saying anything now.

I keep telling myself that if I stop looking for it to come that it will. So far me not checking for it hasn’t lasted more than about 2 minutes.

I’m half tempted to try that Latin release, but I know as soon as I do the official release will come out.

  46. Everyone……. RELAX. Boom.

  47. @Austin – you know how this works. People hear “early 2012″ and get out the pitchforks if a company doesn’t deliver. Then the rumor mill really starts churning because people who didn’t get what the want when they wanted it, started hearing things they want to hear. If you bought a phone *FOR* ICS when it was released with Gingerbread and other phones were already available with ICS, that’s a YOU problem, not a VZ or Moto problem.

  48. I just got a update. Its 2.3.7 lol. Its a joke people.

  49. Peter… I am getting the same message :-) )))))))))

  50. But that COULD just mean that everybody and their brother are crashing it
