droidminiYou may have heard of the Motorola Droid Mini 4G Android mobile handset which was launched this year by the Google owned smartphone manufacturer. The compact, slim and light handset with a large, high-resolution display recently got a couple of pieces of good news, as it received a one penny price tag heading into the holidays, and was officially recognized as an upcoming recipient of the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system update.

The Motorola Droid Mini can be purchased at a reduced price starting at one penny.

That operating system update should arrive by January of next year, and the $0.01 on contract price tag should make the compact, big-screen smartphone a hit over the holidays. The Motorola Droid Mini measures just 4.77 x 2.41 x 0.35 inches (121.25 x 61.3 x 8.9 mm) overall. That is significantly smaller and slimmer than other smartphones with the same size 4.30 inch display, and the handset is lighter than most of those phones as well, weighing just 4.59 ounces (130 g).

That large 4.30 inch screen is a True HD model, delivering an overall resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels. Better than 16 million individual colors are dispersed over that screen at the rate of 342 pixels per inch, with the LCD display protected by a layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass. Even though it is thin and light, the Droid Mini squeezes up to 28.0 hours of talk time after a full battery charge, and supports wireless charging as well.

The phone can also hold a charge in standby mode for up to two weeks, and offers a rear facing 10.0 megapixel camera with a “quick capture” mode. This is activated instantly with a couple of convenient flicks of your wrist, meaning that you never miss capturing a memorable moment. That rear snapper also comes equipped with an LED flash and autofocus, recording video at the rate of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080P HD resolution). Motorola has also added a front facing chat cam on the Droid Mini smartphone with video call support.

The Active Display notification feature helps conserve battery power, and touchless control works with a natural language processing core to wake your phone up with a voice command even when it is in standby mode. The phone is powered by a dual core 1.7 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, a quad core graphics processor is on board, along with 2.0 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in storage space. The phone offers wireless connectivity options through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC technology. The Droid Mini can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at just one penny.
