Back in the day, the word “phablet” was a relatively unknown term in the smartphone lingo but became a household term when Samsung released the Samsung Galaxy Note late last year. The word “phablet” is a combination of the words phone and tablet which basically describes what the first generation Samsung phablet is – a cross between a phone and a tablet. The handset is still a niche device though and doubters were saying at the time of its release that the Samsung Galaxy Note doesn’t stand a chance of making it big in the market. Samsung was out to prove them wrong though because after the smartphone-buying population realized the advantages of the handset’s massive screen real estate and the fact that it came with very impressive components under the hood made the Samsung Galaxy Note an instant hit.

The original Samsung Galaxy Note though is already out the door and headed to retirement because its successor, the Samsung Galaxy Note II has already made its debut in the shelves (but not on a global scale though). Since its unveiling towards the end of August, the second generation Samsung phablet has become one of the more popular handsets in the market and serves as a potent one-two combination alongside the Samsung Galaxy S III in Samsung’s bid to dominate the smartphone market.

In US shores, several carriers have already launched their respective versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note II but there are still some that haven’t done so and Verizon is one of these wireless providers. If you happen to have Verizon and are still waiting for the carrier’s variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note II to hit the shelves of Big Red, that wait is about to come to a screeching end.

As it stands, Big Red has already started sending out emails to its customer base with shipping confirmation for the phablet. According to those who have received the said email, Verizon has started shipping the Samsung Galaxy Note II and the phablet can be expected to arrive this Thursday. This is also the same date that the device will make its debut in the shelves of Big Red and become available for mass consumption for that matter. Those interested in making the Samsung Galaxy Note II their next mobile weapon of choice will have to fork out $299.99 and sign a new two-year service agreement with the carrier to take advantage of the handset at its carrier-subsidized price point.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the handset already runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for its operating system and its operation is powered by its Exynos 4412 Quad chipset. This SoC brings to the table a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz and a staggering 2GB of RAM that works together in delivering the computing muscle required by the handset. The Samsung Galaxy Note II can be had in a 16GB, 32GB and a 64GB model in terms of storage capacity with the option to use its microSD card slot for memory expansion purposes. As for its display, the Samsung Galaxy Note II comes with a massive 5.5-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels while its camera department features a rear 8MP shooter and a 1.9MP snapper.
