droiddnaBack in the day, the Samsung Galaxy Note II totally dominated the phablet category of the smartphone competition. No surprise here given the fact that the second generation Samsung phablet comes with a very impressive resume that includes a massive 5.5-inch screen real estate. In addition to that, the Galaxy Note II also comes with an S-Pen stylus designed to enable a user maximize the handset’s gargantuan display.

Things however changed a bit when HTC decided to join the phablet competition when it released the HTC Droid DNA in our side of the world via Verizon. Though the display of the HTC phablet is slightly smaller than that of the Samsung phablet, the HTC Droid DNA’s screen comes with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. In addition to that, the smaller screen of the HTC phablet gives way to a smaller form factor making it a whole lot more “pocketable” compared to the massive Samsung Galaxy Note II.

Since hitting the shelves of Big Red back in November last year, the HTC Droid DNA became one of the bestselling devices in the lineup of the wireless provider. However, there are rumors and speculations that the HTC Droid DNA is already on its way out because Verizon has finally decided to release its variant of the HTC One later this summer.

With the imminent arrival of the HTC One, the attention of the smartphone-buying population will surely be riveted now on the current HTC flagship. This after an HTC PR exec confirmed a couple of weeks back that the HTC Droid DNA will remain as the hero smartphone of HTC over at Verizon. But of course, you can’t blame Verizon for deciding to ride the HTC One bandwagon especially that the popularity of the device has been steadily on the rise since getting released a couple of months back.

Despite the fact that the HTC Droid DNA could already be headed to retirement in a couple of months, the handset is still one of the more powerful handsets currently available in the market today. In fact, the resume of the HTC Droid DNA is so impressive that it can go up against the newer breed of smartphones that recently hit the shelves and still hold its own.

For those not familiar with what the handset has to offer, the operation of the HTC Droid DNA is powered by its Qualcomm MDM615m/APQ8064 SnapDragon chipset. This SoC brings to the table a quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 2GB of RAM and these two components work together in delivering the computing power needed by the HTC Droid DNA to keep its performance at peak levels. The handset is available in a 16GB version in terms of storage capacity while its display is a 5.0-inch Super LCD3 panel with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Its dual-shooter configuration on the other hand is also very impressive with its main 8MP shooter at its back panel and secondary 2.1MP video call and self-portrait snapper in its front bezel.

The HTC Droid DNA 4G can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at .

  1. Removable/Expandable Storage is just as important to me as the Open Source (Android) operating system. It is/was the attribute that set android apart from the iPhone(s). Please remember this in the future HTC etc.
