galaxynoteiidecRecent news surrounding the Verizon Galaxy Note II smartphone shows a delay in that powerful handset receiving the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system. Rumors have circulated that this is due to a problem with the new Samsung TouchWiz user interface not meshing properly with Jelly Bean 4.2.2, but this has neither been confirmed nor denied by Samsung. There are also thoughts that the Android 4.2.2 Galaxy Note II marriage has been delayed for the release of the upcoming Galaxy Note III, rumored to have an official unveiling at the IFA Trade Show in Berlin, Germany on September 6.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $129.99.

It could be a viable option for Samsung to release the upcoming Galaxy Note III with a much more current operating system than the current Galaxy Note II, to drive sales of the newly released product. Again, these are all rumors at this point, but Galaxy Note II owners are still patiently awaiting Android 4.2.2. To put their minds at ease, Samsung recently announced a list of devices to eventually run on Android 4.3 and Android 5.0, and the Galaxy Note II was on that list. So there is no question that the handset will receive the latest operating systems, it is just a matter of when.

Currently retailing for around $79 on the Verizon Wireless network, the Galaxy Note II recently received a retail price reduction at the Amazon Wireless store online. As the first product from Samsung to deliver the Jelly Bean operating system out-of-the-box, the Galaxy Note II delivers a longer and thicker smart stylus S Pen for a more realistic and “pen like” feel. Although the phone does deliver one of the largest displays ever created for a mobile handset, it is slim in nature, with just a 0.37 inch (9.3 mm) profile.

The 5.55 inch Super AMOLED screen receives a True HD designation thanks to an overall resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels, delivered at 265 pixels per inch. The touchscreen is aligned in a 16 to 9 aspect ratio, a scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2 is on board, as are more than 16 million independent colors. Even though the handset is as slim as much smaller phones, a full 15.0 hours of talk time can be squeezed out of the extended life 3,100 mA battery on board the Galaxy Note II.

The chip set powering the Galaxy Note II is a Samsung Exynos 4 model which revolves around a powerful Exynos quad core CPU clocked at 1.6 GHz. Graphics are handled by a quad core ARM Mali 400 MP4 GPU, and ample RAM memory is on board at 2.0 GB. A microSD slot provides storage expansion of the 16 GB of built-in storage space. The premier camera on the handset is an 8.0 megapixel snapper on the back, providing video capture in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080P HD resolution), and at 30 frames per second. A front facing chat cam is also on board, as is a Stereo FM radio with RDS display functionality.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $129.99.
