In today’s Android ecosystem, the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which was unveiled a couple of months back. And to give us an idea of the goodies and treats that this version of Android version brings to the table, the LG Nexus 4 was launched. The handset is currently the Google flagship device and is now one of the most popular handsets in the market today having sold out in just a couple of hours after it hit the shelves back in November.

Since its release, we’ve heard a lot of good things about the LG Nexus 4 and what an upgrade the handset is compared to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, its predecessor. Though this might be the case, there is always the off-chance that even a handset like the LG Nexus 4 will also fall prey to an issue or two. The major pain point that the handset has to contend to is its apparent lack of support for LTE connectivity – a decision of Google that has left us baffled until now.

However, there are those who are not completely enamored with the video quality that the LG Nexus 4 is outputting. More often than not, these people are the lucky ones who managed to snag the handset when it first hit the shelves back in November. However, going back with this video quality output on the handset, if you think that you want to make things look a little crisper, the boys over at XDA Developers have managed to find a little tweak that will enable you to overdrive the default 10080p video bitrate of the LG Nexus 4.

If you happen to have an LG Nexus 4 for your mobile weapon of choice and are interested in “max-ing” out the handset’s video quality output, all you need to do is to edit some files to achieve this. All you need to do is access the media_profiles.xml file in the handset’s /system/etc directory. This is in plaintext so it can easily be edited. Once there, all you have to do is change the profile entry for 1080p recording from 12000000 to 20000000 to force the camera of the handset to record 1080p videos at a 20Mbps bitrate. With this in play, an increase in quality should become apparent along with a fewer compression artifacts.

As for the LG Nexus 4, the handset is powered by a QualComm APQ8064 SnapDragon chipset under the hood and this SoC brings into play a quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and a staggering 2GB of RAM. The handset was released in an 8GB and a 16GB model in terms of storage space while its display measures 4.7 inches diagonally and is of the True HD IPS Plus type with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. The handset’s camera department on the other hand is comprised of a main 8MP shooter at its back panel while its front panel houses the LG Nexus 4’s 1.3MP video call and self-portrait camera.
