In today’s smartphone world, Nokia is still trying to reclaim its lost glory in the competition. Looking back, the Finnish manufacturer was at the forefront of things a couple of years back but got relegated to the back seat with the entry of OEMs such as Apple, HTC, Samsung, Motorola and the like in the market. Nokia got a second lease on life when it partnered with software giant Microsoft and began coming up with handsets for the Windows Phone ecosystem.

This time around, Nokia has just recently unveiled its new flagship device for the Windows Phone platform in the form of the Nokia Lumia 920. When it was announced, one of the selling points of the handset was its larger than average 2000 mAh power pack which should give way to a day of full use for the handset. This is important for a power user because the Nokia Lumia 920 in the first place comes with the whole “she-bang” and would need all the drop of juice it can get its hands on.

Sad to say, it looks like this wouldn’t be the case for the version of the Nokia Lumia 920 that will be released by AT&T in US shores. The AT&T variant of the handset is now posted on the website of the Finnish manufacturer but it looks like the battery life of the handset has been shortened when comparing it to the international version. AT&T’s version of the Nokia Lumia 920 only has 9 hours of talk time compared to the 10 hours of its international sibling. Standby time also dropped to 320 hours compared to the 400 of the original version.

No reason was forthcoming regarding the decreased battery life of the AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 but it could be blamed on firmware changes on the handset due to carrier requirements. AT&T might have done a lot of testing requested changes that had adverse effects on the radio performance of the handset which inevitably led to a slightly shorter battery life on the device. In addition to that, the handset also packs support for the LTE network of AT&T and this alone is a major battery hog which could also explain things. Despite that, the Nokia Lumia 920 is still a worthy upgrade given the impressive components it packs in its internals and the impressive capabilities it brings to the table.

As for the handset, the circuitry of the Nokia Lumia 920 is built around its QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset which comes with a dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and a full gigabyte of RAM. Storage-wise, the handset comes with 32GB of onboard memory but there is no option for memory expansion on the handset. In terms of its display, the Nokia Lumia 920 sports a massive 4.5-inch IPS TFT capacitive mulltitouch panel with a 1280 x 768 resolution while its camera department is just as impressive with its rear 8MP shooter that makes use of PureView Technology and front-facing 1.3MP video chat and self-portrait camera.
