As part of a multi-device rollout, AT&T recently announced that all their Android mobile devices would receive the update in 2011 to the popular Gingerbread operators, which would include the Samsung Infuse 4g smartphone. When most of these handsets rolled out in early 2011, Google’s Froyo 2.2 operating system was the latest and greatest, and has since been upgraded. The Google Android gingerbread 2.3 OS rollout and software upgrade will take place over the air, and requires no technical expertise from the handset owner.

The Infuse 4G rolled out in early 2011 with the largest display in smartphone technology at 4.5 inches. Also one of the thinnest handsets in the 4G marketplace, every Infuse 4G owner wash hoping to have had the update by now. AT&T and Samsung have announced that the gradual rollout across the nation would take place during the month of August, and appears to have gone off schedule as the Infuse is still waiting. Just what exactly can you expect as a performance upgrade with the Infuse 4G Gingerbread update? Let’s take a look.

The first major change lies in the physical appearance of the Gingerbread OS as opposed to Froyo. With operating systems like Motorola’s Motoblur and HTC’s Sense user interface, Google realized that mobile device users are tired of the bland and featureless Android operating systems. So the first move is a design change that will look very little like what we have come to expect from Google. And as anticipated, Gtalk video chat support is finally here.

The Samsung Infuse 4G is a very thin phone, and because of that, the battery in the Infuse 4G is thinner and smaller as well, so battery life is not the greatest. Enhanced productivity and the ability to squeeze every minute of a full battery charge has been added in the software update, so expect your Samsung Infuse 4G to last longer on a single charge once it receives the update. Other Gmail updates besides the video chat feature are also on board the software upgrade. Speed enhancements across the board are also a part of the Gingerbread update according to AT&T and Google.

Other user interface touch-ups, and better copy and paste functionality were not explained in detail, but appear in several key areas. Improved battery life through better applications management is also a key part of this update. You can now more easily close down any applications you are not using. The virtual keyboard is also enhanced, and makes for much quicker and accurate typing. Multitouch navigation on the Infuse 4G’s touchscreen will also be present. Expect continued Android OS updates going forward, according to AT&T.  Learn more about the technical specs and the multimedia powerhouse feature set on this phone in our comprehensive Samsung Infuse 4G Review.
